The gap to be filled is the place of prayer. Prayer is the channel that God has chosen to pour out |his blessings upon a needy peoâ€" \ ple. He actually needs someone 'to stand in that gap and make the connection. Samuel says, l“God forbid that I should sin ’against the Lord in ceasing to ipray for you." So often we think ‘of prayer as a means to overâ€" icome God‘s unwillingness, but lin reality prayer is God‘s veâ€" \hicle through which he is longâ€" {ing to bless. Are we as Chrisâ€" | tians eager to make that conâ€" \nection ? With one. hand we ireach down to a weary world |and with the other we take the ihand of God and allow his ‘blessings to flow through us to | others. â€"1 Samuel 12.23. of the election campaign. In 1930, for the first time in | history â€" the voice of King George was to be heard all over the world. America was scheâ€" duled to hear it through the Columbia Broadcasting System. Just before the broadcast, a member of the control room staff tripped over a wire and broke it, thus severing connecâ€" tions. Harold Vivian, chief conâ€" trol operator picked up the broâ€" ken wires, one in each hand. and restored the connection. Lighted candles are atâ€" | tached to the spears. As an individual, may 1 exâ€" press my appreciation for the just manner in which you cov» ered this election. It is a pleaâ€" sure to read a newspaper which attempts to examine all sides of a question and to present honest picture to the public. Risk Lives for Bird‘s Nests When the Duke of Edinburgh visited Borneo recently he ate some bird‘sâ€"nest soup. Don‘t shudder. This strange dish, say gourmets, has a delicious taste. It has long been a great delicacy among the Chinese and others. x.n't;;e â€"g‘x:;x;i limestone caves of North Borneo, are formed from avglun;uvzus- substance produced from the large salivary glands of caveâ€"haunting swifts. The fine threads of which these nests are interwoven are not, unlike those of a shredded wheat cake. The right to colâ€" lect these nests, which are atâ€" tached to the sides and roofs of the caves, is vested in certain families of natives in Borneo and is handed down from generaâ€" tion to generation. The| task of collecting is a perilous one, for the natives use flimsy| ratten ladders, sometimes 60C feet long, which are let down from a ratten staging stretched across the roof of a cave. Before the war these edible birds‘ nests were sold at about $2.50 an ounce, but prices are much higher today. Before beâ€" ing made into soup, the nests are cut up into small shavings. The Chinese believe that they have wonderful medicinal propâ€" erties. Many similar nests are found in the islands around Siam and the Malay Archipelago. The birds build them in most inâ€" accessible spots among the cliffs along the coast and natives freâ€" quently risk their lives to reach them, as in the Borneo caves. When they have been collected the nests are packed in strips of tree bark and are sold by aucâ€" tion. ‘4 pint (1‘4 cups) commercial sour cream 4 cup water & Heat bacon dripping or shortâ€" cning in a frypan; add onions and mushrooms and fry until tender. Add.and blend in flour and salt. Gradually stir in sour cream and water. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thoroughly heated. FAIR COMMENT In Cardedue, Spain, recently, burglars broke into a windmill and later a carpenter‘s shop while the owners slept.. They turned both premises upside down but took nothing. The maâ€" rauders moved to a. nearâ€"by stable, saddled a horse, fed and watered it, and then left it teth» ered to a post in the yard. They continued their advenâ€" tures by breaking into a tavern, eating their fill of smoked sausâ€" ages, washed down with wine. For good measure they took all the money from the till and left it piled neatly on the counter. Beside it they propped a pithy note: "What this town needs is a night watchman." Taking a long view of a situâ€" ation is easy when you‘re not involved. CCF Candidate. Nours sincerely, Mrs. Marjorie Clarke, dies
