Member of the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association (Mr. Stinson, who is member of Parliament for the riding of York Centre, which encompasses pracâ€" tically all of North York Township, is a member of the Canadian contingent attending the current sesâ€" sion of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.) While it would be inappropriate to call this a Summit meeting, all the world leaders except De Gaulle are here on what might be called a plateau â€" the floor of the Assembly of the United Nations. After hours the western leaders meet to consider their reactions to speeches made by Communist bloc representatives and to plan their own strategy. These meetings, of course, attract less notice than those of Kruschev, Castro and the other Communist represenâ€" tatives. But both the statesmen and the experts from the west are working intensively to try to find grounds for agreement on the big issues. Of the Russian representatives, Andrei Gromyko who is a veteran Soviet representative at United Nations meetings, seems most at east in the deleâ€" gates lounge and on social occasions, Sometimes he gives the appearance of one who is acting a role which he really does not enjoy. But it would be unwise to think that he differs in any way from his boss Kruschev on matters of policy or tactics. In the past he has shown himself to be a tough and inflexâ€" ible bargainer who never wavers from the party line. At Canada‘s first luncheon at the United Nations last Friday, Mr. Gromyko arrived an hour and a half late. He had to confer with Mr. Kruschev after the latter‘s two hour speech in the Assembly. The guest who seemed most impatient about having to wait for him was Krishna Menon, the Indian Defence Minâ€" ister. The luncheon got under way at three o‘clock. When the Assembly considered the admission of the Republic of Congo, the question was quietly turned over to the Credentials Committee. No matâ€" ter what kind of arguments the lawyers come up with, it apepars to me that the party which comâ€" mands the army will form the government which will win recognition at the United Nations. Once entrenched by the soldiers, this party will find legal precedents to support its case. It will be an interestâ€" ing debate, Canada has two French speaking Members of Parliament in the delegationâ€"Martial Asselin and J. P. Racine. These gentlemen have been doing their homework on the histbry and geography of the new African States, and becoming acquainted with the African representatives. In midweek the Prime Minister and the Honourâ€" able Howard Green returned to Ottawa. Representâ€" ing Canada in the Assembly will be Ambassador Charles Ritchie, permanent delegate of Canada to the United Nations. Christian business man noticed that when salesmen came into his office and did not notice the Bible on his desk they would, more often than not, start to tell him a sooty story, but when the Bible caught their attention they would hastily "change gear" and draw about themselves their cloak of reâ€" ligion. He was amazed at the number of salesmen whose grandfathers were Methodist._preachers and whose fathers were Sunday School superintendents. A great many people claim to be religious, parâ€" ticularly if at the time it is convenient, but we must be careful not to be deceived into thinking that beâ€" cause we are religious that we are Christians. There is a great deal of difference between religion and Christianity. Webster‘s dictionary defines religion as "a system of faith and worship". In a sense everyâ€" one is religious. We all worship something. We may have our faith in a code of ethics, or our own presumed goodness. Very often our worship is slanted towards ourselves. We come face to face with a Person. Not a set of rules, or a theory, but a PERSON, and that person is Jesus Christ. When we stand before the judgment seat of God, as we all must, the question will be, "What have ye done with Christ?" Our eternal desâ€" tiny hangs upon our decision for Christ now. Christianity is so simple. It is only we humans who make it appear so difficult to understand. God wants us to trust the keeping of our souls to Jesus Christ. When we lie down at night upon our beds we do not spend time worrying about whether or not the bed is going to hold us up, we trust ourselves comâ€" pletely to it and rest. That is what God wants us to do with his Son. Just abandon ourselves to him trus%ing him to keep us from all sin and its ultimate result. "My home is God Himself; Christ brought me there. Ilaid me down within his mighty arms; He took me up, and safe from all alarms He bore me "where no foot but his has trod". Within the holiest at Home with God. O wondrous Place! O home diâ€" vinely fair! Am I God‘s little one, safe hidden there. â€"Author unknown. Woodbridge United Church REV. WM. D. F.
