SCOTT WOODBRIDGE AND MANY THANKS WESTON FUNERAL HOME The coming of Christ, the Son of God, into the world was foreâ€" told by prophets. They declared His birth; His birthplace;< His Person; His work; His rejection; His atoning death; His resurrecâ€" tion; His ascension and His comâ€" ing again. When the day came that Christ â€" was born, accomâ€" panied by miraculous events, the world _ was unprepared. â€" There were some who were watching,. and were ready. For all people. and all ages, the message is that Christ has come, fulfilling all that the proâ€" phets foretold. That Christ will come to anyone who will acknowâ€" ledge â€" their sing accept Jesus Christ as Saviour; and confess Him â€" as Lord. Further. that Christ will come again. Thus the urgency . of _ our acceptance . of Christ â€" now, and acknowledgeâ€" ment of Him as Lord, that we be ready when He comes. Jesus said, ""Watch yeâ€" therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the PINE GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH Christmas, although expected for some time,. finds most of us unprepared. There are so many last minute preparations to be made. Christmas â€" this â€" year â€" means many different things to many different people in this vast metâ€" ropolitan and cosmopolitan city of Toronto. What essentially does it mean to the Christian? Surely, this one astounding, almost incredâ€" ible, fact stands out as you read the Scriptures â€" "God became one of us". This fact alone gives to Christmas its wonder, . its glory, and its great joy. Wheâ€" ther we know it or not, this is why Christmas is Christmas. Closely following upon this | first â€" question, however, must| come a second one. Why did| God break through from Eterâ€"‘ nity into Time? Again, we must turn to the Bible for the anâ€"} swer: "God was in Christ reconâ€" ciling the world unto Himself". No wonder the Angel Host sang that glorious refrain, "Glory to God in the highest. . ." At Christâ€" mas time, Christians kneel and sing â€" with hearts overflowing with joy and gladness: The second aspect of God‘s twoâ€"fold Gift is pointed up by the text ". . . the Gift of God is eternal â€" life through Jesus Christ, our Lord." Rom 6:28. As the wrappings must be torn off to appreciate and appropriate a gift, so the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, God‘s Son, had to be broken and laid aside that the Gift of God might be made availâ€" able to us. It was at the tree at Calvary that this was done when the Saviour ". . . bore our sins in His Own body on the tree." The benefits and blessings of that Gift â€" forgiveness for sin and eternal life â€" can be ours only through true repenâ€" tance toward God and a simple faith in the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ at Calâ€" vary. This is the only way to blessedness at this season or at any other. It is our earnest prayâ€" er that all who read this column will find that blessedness. Rev F. D. Elliott. "O Holy child of Bethlehem Descend to us, we pray Cast our our sin and enter in Be born in us to day". This is the gift of God, to turn the darkness of this world into the daybreak. ) 42 Thursday. Dec. 22 1960 THE J Currently, this is the season when it is customary to give gifts. God‘s season for the first of His twoâ€"fold Gift to the world was about nineteen centuries ago when He sent forth His Son as the above verse states. It is the usual custom to wrap gifts. The Gift of God‘s Dear Son was enclosed in the human flesh of a tender little babe. "Veiled in flesh the Godhead see." "For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: . . . Isa. In your worâ€" ship at home and in â€" your churches may you find peace and reassurance in the fellowship of Somewhere above the place of the Nativity we have seen a star shining in a ‘world of darkness and confusion, which has given us hove, a sense of direction, and the assurance that God cares and continues to love his childâ€" ren. OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS "For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." At this special time of the year, the importance and signifiâ€" cance of the Holy Child, is brought more vividly to our atâ€" tention. This in turn causes us to show a greater concern for our fellow men, and the needs of the little children. For every child has something in common with the Christ child, and in some respects resembles him. When Jesus "called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them", so God, the heavenly Father, sent his (‘,h{!d to us long ago, and set him in the midst of us forever, to teach and give us the imperishable hope of eternity. "When the fulness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." Galations 4: 4 and 5. How is a person "redeemed"? Again God gives the answer in the Bible, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemâ€" ed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and withâ€" out spot: Who verily was foreâ€" ordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by Him do‘ believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 1 Peter 1:18â€"21. The Gospel is preached each Sunday (the Lord‘s Day) at 7:30 p.m. in the " PINE GROVE ’ GOSPEL HALL "Why _ camest â€" thou d o w n hither?" 1 Samuel 17:28. Although | nearly thirty ~t w o hundred years have passed since this question was asked, the question has not lost any of its searching quality. At this time of the year when the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, God‘s Son, is obscured by the tinsle, wlitter, and â€" commercialism . of the world we would do well to pause â€" and â€" consider â€" "Why camest Thou down hither?" The answer to the question is given by God Himself in the Biblewho says:â€" cometh." _ To all of you, we wish you a Joyous Christmas, as you know the Joy of Christ‘s Presence, and for the New Year, if the Lord tarries, His Guidance for each day. Let us resolve that, in all the festivity _ and _ excitement _ of Christmas, Jesus will be lifted up in our hearts, and hope that the day may soon come when every day will be like Christâ€" Christmas is such a joyous season â€" perhaps because it is the one time in the year when many people discover a little of what Jesus meant when He said, WOODBKIDGE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH One Christmas a couple of young men planned a bit of fun at the expense of a feebleâ€" minded boy of their village. At the community Christmas conâ€" cert they arranged for a large box, beautifully wrapped, to be presented to him. Eagerly he reached for the unexpected gift and with nervous fingers untied the ribbons and opened the box. Then his expectation turned to dispair for the beautifully wrapâ€" ped box was empty. wOODBRIDGE UNITED CHURCH At this season of wondrous joy and hope, I am delighted and grateful to this newspaper for this opportunity to extend to the people of our lovely vilâ€" lage grectings in the Name of Him whose birthday we are preâ€" paring to celebrate. What a picture that story preâ€" sents â€" a picture of Christmas for many of us. The beautiful wrappings, the trimmings, are all there, but at the heart of it only an emptiness. The observance of Christmas becomes meaningful and its valâ€" ues lasting only when we obâ€" serve it as "The Birthday of the King", the commemoration of the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. Let the joy of the season conâ€" tinue. Share in all the happy festivities of the day. Multiply your own happiness by sharing with others. But in all your celeâ€" bration _ remember the Christ whose birthday it is. Make room for the Christ of Christmas in your heart and life this year. Rev. A. Fred Howick.
