They .celebrated <their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. William .Meade (Grace) of Thistletown. ‘Although many of their old friends have passed on, those who are left have rememâ€" bered, as well as many young people, and cards, telegrams, flowers and gifts have been arâ€" viving with love and best wishes to the happy couple. The setting was Londor, Engâ€" i oi oo fle High Commissioner of Canada George Drew, Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and Toronto‘s Mayor Nathan Phillips were among those who sent cards of congratulation to Mr. and Mrs. Crux. About 50 guests gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Meade, Thistletown, when an afternoon tea celebrated the event officially. They have three daughters, Mrs. Howard Morris (Gladys) of Chicago; Mrs. William McFadâ€" yen (Ivy) of Long Branch, and Mrs. William Meade (Grace) of Thistletown. There are eight grandchildren and 12 greatâ€"grandâ€" children. f At the Weston office of the Unemployment Insurance Com:â€" mission, as at other offices throughout Canada, certain quesâ€" tions about unemployment insurâ€" ance and the individual‘s entitleâ€" ment to it are repeatedly asked. In an effort to anticipate some of the queries the commission compiles a periodical summary of typical and unusual questions â€"which often illustrate sections of the laws governing unemployâ€" ment insurance. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON UNEMPLOYMENT INS. A. Unless he works a full working week a claimant can earn up to 50 per cent of his weekly benefit without decreasâ€" ing his entitiement for that week. Q. I took my annual holidays with pay. Does the unemployâ€" ment insurance office have the right to withhold benefits in reâ€" spect of these two weeks ? A. Yes. Benefit is not payable to a claimant while on a holiâ€" day. A. Employment of this kind would be insurable only if the relationship between the house owner and the worker were that of master and servant. Under the cireumstances outlined in this case it does not appear that there is such a relationship. The four men appear to be working as independent contractors. Howâ€" ever, to obtain a definite ruling the case should be submitted with full details to the local ofâ€" fice. Q. What is the maximum amount which may be earned by an â€" individual without decreasâ€" ing his benefit? Q. A man who said he was from the Unemployment Insurâ€" ance Commission called at my home and questioned me about my claim for benefit. How could I have made certain that he was from the commission? The following is a compilation of some of these questions and answers as provided by the Wesâ€" ton office of the commission: Q. I have unemployment inâ€" surance stamps for the period extending from August 16 to December 19, 1959. I used up all my regular and seasonal beneâ€" fits in 1959. In 1960 I had stamps for the period extending from June 22 to September 23. Will I be entitled to regular benefit? Will last year‘s stamps count? . A. If you filed a claim for benefit now your 1959 and 1960 contributions would be taken into _ consideration, but you would be unable to qualify for regular benefit as, in addition to other requirements, you would not have 24 weekly contributions since the commencement date of your last claim or in the last 52 weeks, whichever is the longer period. Q. I had a house built for myself and I employed four men. These men are now asking for their unemployment â€" insurance stamps. I work as a truck driver and I draw benefits in the spring. I should like to know whether I can have a permit to purchase stamps. If not, would my wife be able to have one in her name? A.
