THE TIMES ADVERTISER â€"â€" Thurs, June 21, 1962 Walleyfield Public School held it‘s annual Playâ€"Day last Friday, June 15th, with six teams comâ€" peting in Broad Jumping, Bean Bag Throwing, High Jumping, Dodge Ball, Relay Races, Wand Jump and Running Bases in nine seconds. Captain of the first place team was Bruce Abel, with Gary Benâ€" mett‘s team in second place and Ross Warriner in third. Players on the winning team included Kathy Barker, Dave Mcâ€" Gill, Jennifer Harfield, Michael Allen, Sandra Gershuny, Chris Bielecki. Ricky Barron, Kim Kenâ€" nedy and Ann Sutherland. Ladies of the Royal York Garâ€" dens District Euchre Club wound up their season with a dinner at So happy to see David Lyon in Church last Sunday. David has been on the sick list for a very long time and all his friends reâ€" joice to see him well again. It was Flower and Award Sunâ€"| day last week at Trethewey Park ! United Church. This is the cliâ€"| max of the Sunday School year. The church was beautifully deâ€"| corated with baskets of flowers. After the singing of the opening ; hymn, the three to fiveâ€"yearâ€"olds | from the Beginners Department proceeded up the aisle to the Chancel carrying nosegay bou~‘ quets of white daisies, These| were received by the minis!er" who placed them in a special holder in the shape of a cross which stood in the centre of the Chancel. It was most fitting that the child presented for Baptism | during the service should be the daughter of a former member of the Sunday School. This was Brenda Marie, daughter of Mr.}| and Mrs. Retty (nee Judy Bevan) | and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Bevan. The Junior Choir, | dressed in their fresh white | gowns, sang as their anthem "Lord of All Being." Using dais | fes to illustrate his sermon "Daisâ€" ies DO Tell", Mr. Clarke showed the congregation a lovely white daisy and compared it to the purâ€" ity of a baby. Then taking an-‘ other white daisy and dipping it into a solution which turned it a | dingy mauve color he explained that this was what happens to the lives:of boys and girls when | they develop bad habits such as | lying, laziness, disobedience, etc. | Another daisy was sprayed with 1 a red colouring and illustrated | the people whose religion is only a dress up on the outside. Final ‘ ly he showed a pretty pink daisy whose colouring comes from a | solution drawn up through the stem and shows a loveliness which comes from the inside and wolours all our life. Although the message was directed to the boys and girls, it could be applied to the lives of all those who heard. Congratulations to Derek Mcâ€" Cracken who has successfully «ompleted his second year at Mcâ€" Master University.
