Over the last. holiday weekâ€"end they set up camp at a privately owned campsite on the shore of Gull Lake rear Bala. Using both barbeque and Coleman camp stove, they rustled up most deâ€" licious meals. Next year they plan to visit a camping ground near Sarnia. The growth of the Provincial Parks and camping areas, during the past few years, has been beyond expectation. More and more people are discovering the fun of living outdoors, close to nature, and it is estimated that 600,000 campers made use of our Provincial Parks last year. In the past five or six years the number of Provincial parks, operating across Ontario, has inâ€" creased from eight to eighty. Seventyâ€"two have camping facilâ€" ities" and individual camp sites number more than 13,000. Fees are unchanged from last year. A $3.00 vehicle permit admits a vehicle and its occupants to any provincial park any number of times throughout the year. The daily permit is only fifty cents. The vehicle permits also allow entrance to all Ontario and St. Lawrence Development Commisâ€" l sion Parks. and the Commission‘s permits are honoured in all | Provincial Parks. A campsite still costs only $1.00 a day. of RABIES If you ever see a wild animal acting strangely, be careful. It could have rabies. Reports are still coming in of cases of rabies throughout the province. One time a prospector friend of mine noticed a fox crawling on its belly towards him the same as it would when stalking its prey. When the fox was only a foot or iwo from him, my friend was able to shoot it. The animal proved to have rabies. ‘ The Humber Highland expanâ€" sion program will raise the numâ€" ber of sheets of ice in Metro to ’the astounding total of 196. By contrast, only 25 sheets of ice were available ten years ago in | 1952. Although rabies is on the deâ€" cline, fortyâ€"two positive cases were reported in Ontario during June. The sreatest percentage were in the Lake Simcoe Forest District. tional cight sheets of rental ice now makes it the largest rental club in the Metro area.
