1y H&S Assoc. Streamlines Exec. "Bitter Pill To Swallow" Home and School gears to the atomic age. The Ontario Eederâ€" ation of Home & School Associaâ€" tions Incorporated, at a meeting of its Board of Directors, recentâ€" ly made an agonizing reâ€"appraisâ€" al of itself and voted to accept in principal the recommendaâ€" tions of a firm of management consultants which had been reâ€" tained to make a survey of the Federation‘s Organizaâ€" tions Structure. Here are some of the unpalatâ€" able truths which the manageâ€" ment consultants presented: â€"the low level of Association interest in Federation nomâ€" inations and elections (only 32.1% of eligible Association ballots were cast at the 1962 Annual Convention in Torâ€" onto) â€"the feeling of discontent on the part of Members, with the progress of Federation. â€"the â€" adverse â€" publicity â€" freâ€" quently directed at the Fedâ€" eration. This may have been bitter medicine to some Board Memâ€" bers, but by unopposed majority votes they agreed to accept the! consultant‘s recommendations for a new look, which included: â€"a strengthening of the presâ€" ent status of the 49 Councils in the Province, and the abâ€" olition of District Organizâ€" ers.. â€"the return to 9 Areas in the Province, controlled by Area Boards. â€"Repiacement of the current 115 Member Board of Directâ€" ors by a 54 Member "Execuâ€" tive". __ * Singled out for particular emâ€" phasis by the consultants was the need to stress the importâ€" ance of the individual Home and School Association. Poor comâ€" Sir: I have noticed several items regarding Kipling Acres in your paper, and I hope you will be able to print the following. Dating from December 1957, 1‘ underwent three rather serious| operations, and in January 1960 | came from Humber Memorial Hospital in an ambulance to Kipling Acres Home for the Aged. I have only a rather blurred memory of my arrival here, beâ€" ing in a very weak state of health, and for some time was confined to my bed. After some weeks, thanks to the wonderful care and nursing I received, I was able to navigate a wheelâ€" chair and soon after was on my feet again. Then, still being given the same care and attention to my diet, I gradually regained my lost strength, and now, in spite of my 80 years, am enjoying the very best of health. I must add that during the two years and nine months I have resided here, I have always received the greatest care and consideration from any of the staff with whom I have come in contact with â€" especially the dieticians. The â€" financial â€" arrangements have been strictly in accordance with the original plan, i.e., seven eighths of any income over the oldâ€"age pension, and personally, I would not entertain any idea of changing my residence for any consideration. The Ontario Federation of Home and School Association Inâ€" corporated was first formed in 1919. Membership has increased steadily, although some fallâ€"off has occurred in recent years, and now stands approximately 130,000 Members in more than 1,600 Home and School Associaâ€" tions. The drastic changes necessary to streamline the organization will take time to implement. The Annual Meeting of the Fedâ€" eration, to be held in Toronto on April 1l7th., 1963, is the target date for the operation of the new machinery. A Steering Com:â€" mittee for the Implementation of the New Structure has been set up with Mrs. P. J. Glaubitz as Chairman. Other members are Mrs. R. P. Rumball of Sudâ€" bury, Mrs. W, H. Tennant of Etoâ€" bicoke, Mrs. W. H. Crown of Scarborough and Mr. A. K. Dixâ€" on of North York. Add Autumn Tang to Meals With Hot Fruit Recipes "This has been a very importâ€" ant day in the history of Home: and School in Ontario," said Federation President, Mrs. John Cropper of St. Catharines in congratulating the Members of the Board on their acceptance of the recommended organizational changes. Executive Viceâ€"Presiâ€" dent, Mrs. A. F. Toogood of Unâ€" ionville, expressed the feelings of the Board when she thanked the members of the management consultant firm for their careful analysis and constructive recomâ€" mendations, Mrs. P. J. Glaubitz worked closely with the consulâ€" tants in the preparation of the report which must receive final ratification from the full Federâ€" ation Membership at the 1963 }Annual Convention. The first tang of Autumn brings renewed vitality and sudâ€" denly with a spurt of energy we decide its time to vary our summer desserts. Fresh berries and melons, peaches, pears and grapes, which have been the mainstay of our dessert selecâ€" tions in August seem to lose a little of their appeal. Cooler days suggest it is now time to turn on the oven and use these favourites in combinations of pies, â€" shortcakes, betties and cottage puddings. If we use milk, butter and eggs in these desserts we are actually enâ€" hancing the food value of these lovely fruits. So, while the chili sauce is simmering, whisk some shortâ€" cake biscuits into the oven. Cool slightly. Split and brush with melted butter. Put on a generous serving of slightly sweetened peaches, or a luscious combinâ€" ation of fall fruits, pears, peachâ€" es, green grapes and melons. Top with a dab of whipped cream. Place biscuit on top and finish with more whipped cream and fresh fruits, Be sure to reâ€" serve some pretty pieces of fruit for garnish.
