K 2 MAJOR PLANS BEGIN 1963 THESE MEMBERS of the Weston Silyvâ€" er Band took time out from their own Christmas celebrations to entertain the patients at Humber Memorial Hospital, last week. The band played Christmas Editorial Weston has a chance, in 1963, to crown more than 100 years of history, with the most prosperous and happy twelve months the town has ever had. The coming year can also be a time of worry and frustration if we slide into it without a concrete plan of action We ‘have seen, in 1962, a reâ€" vitalization of our town. We have seen the Weston Businessmen pull up their socks and breathe new life into the merchant‘s asâ€" sociation. The Businessmen have begun, again, to improve the town‘s retail section for the good of themselves, and, more imâ€" portant, for the good of the people who shop in Weston. Town Council has initiated some plans which have been needed for a long time. The imâ€" provement of South Station Street mow being undertaken, and the plans to make Weston a more diversified centre of commerce in Metro, are beneficial to us all. The people of Weston have shown how big their hearts are by donating three tons of food and clothing to the young people of Central United Church for the needy families of the city. The Town‘s Recreation Comâ€" mission has packed the Weston pool, donated by the Town‘s Lions Club, and thousands have benefited from Weston‘s recreaâ€" tion program. Our parks, our stppets, sewers, garbage system, and our buildâ€" ings have all been improved this year. By comparison with the 1950‘s we have probably accomplished more this year than in any other since the war, but these accompâ€" lishments can be made to seem small by what we can do in 1963. By this summer, six months from now, we can, if we want, We Can Make ‘63 Happy In Weston have one of the most thriving communities in Metro Toronto. We can support a plan to build another parking lot, for about 600 cars, in the south end. We can build a football field and cinder track which will make Weston one of the most popular municipalities _ in _ Metro _ for sportsmen. _ We can have a track and field training school, the only independent school in Toronto. We may even be given a stadium, seating 5,000 people, Weston and area residents fillâ€" ed the stockings of many downâ€" town Toronto people with more than three tons of food and clothing, as a result of the Christâ€" mas drive of the Hi C,. and Young People‘s groups of Central United Church, which ended this week. Miss Barbara Holley, camâ€" paign convenor, issued "many thanks to all the residents af Weston and the outâ€"ofâ€"town callâ€" ers who supported this Christmas Drive for used clothing and canâ€" ned foods for the people in downâ€" town Toronto in need." She said special thanks should go to Dolly Jewellers who contributed a set of dishes for eight and other gifts, and to Woods Trucking Co. Ltd., for the donation of a truck and driver to deliver the food and clothing downtown. (See pictures on Page 6). Three Tons Of Food, Etc. WESTON, ONTARIO, DECEMBER 27, 1962 NEW YEAR‘S is a time for resolutions, and our prime aim in 1963 as every year, is to create a happy, healthy enâ€" vironment for our children. The good we sow today will be reaped by youngâ€" sters like these, the sons of the Rev. Stephen and Mrs. Oliver, Rector of St. Davids Anglican Church. The keys they The Town of Weston may have two kingâ€"size jobs with which to begin the New Year. A group of Weston merchants have made a 1963 resolution to create, if possible, a new parkâ€" ing lot in town, which may hold up to 600 cars. The lot will be slated for the south end of Wesâ€". ton, just off Weston Road, and its creation ‘lepends on the government‘s willingness to part with a large chunk of governâ€" ment land in the area. A second project about to be taken in hand by Weston groups, both commercial and service, will be a plan to make Weston a sports centre of Toronto Individuals are now enlisting help to bring about the building of a track and field area near the town swimming pool. Other ideas in the bag of tricks of the local sportsmen, should lift a few eyebrows and put Weston on the map again in sports. Both projects are under wraps at present until sufficient support has been drummed up for a beâ€" ginning. The Times should have complete details in January. If New. Year‘s resolutions mean anything, the two plans for the town should be promoted in hold will someday unlock the doors of Peace and Prosperity, if we prepare the way.
