JOHN‘S ANGLICAN CHURCH NOTES Winding up the Epiphany INM" lion of the 1963 programme " St. John's Anglican Church, Weston, the Rev. Harvey J. Scum and the assistant rector, Rev. Canon E. Ralph Adye, challenged large congregations at all services on the subject of the individuals and the eongregatitm's partieipa- tion in the world-wide Mission of the Church. Preaching in the morning. Can. on Adye. speaking at the Father- hood of God for the whole world and the statement of St. Paul that God is able to do “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think" said that one third of the Anglican strength of the world was concentrated among the 300,000.000 people in the Unit- ed States. Canada, The British islies and the West Indies. Canon Adye stated that there were 188 dioceses. 290 Bishops. about 12.- 000 clergy and about 11.000 con- gregations to serve this fraction of the total world population of 3,000.000,000 people. “This impos- es a supreme responsibility on those of us who are so abundant- ly blessed with spiritual minis- trations and greatly endowed with material blessings to have a very great concern for those who have little if anything either of spiritual or material bless- ings." Canon Adye went on to declare that the power of God was available in abundance through the presence of His Holy Spirit in the world to take care of all the world's needs but that they must be met by the human " who already know the mmf God. Following the service a Maria ette Play. in two acts erttitUd, "What are you going to do about it?" performed by Mr. Len Keith and assisted by his daughter, Lois and Gale with Mrs. Keith as directress. The Play showed the experiences of Mr. and In. Henry Hardcase and their typi- cal teen-age daughter who were nominal members of the Church but thought themselves excellent members because they occasio- ally turned up at Church and Henry helped the boys to play basket-ball. Harriet Hardcaae at, tended lots of meetings but none of them did very little for the whole mission of the Church. The first act showed the activity when the rector called to interest the family in the Epiphany program- me and ended with the promise extracted from Henry that he would take in some of the spec- ial services. The second act tie- tailed the action of a special visit the rector was asked to make after the Epiphany services when Henry Hardcase decided that he had to do something more about his religious faith than to deep in if he felt like it on Sunday morning and teach a few boys to play basketball. A discussion that followed the play revealed the desire on tho part of the large number vb were present to really do nome- thing about their Christian oUiga-, tion to the world. A great cm- cern was also shown for all the Henry's who mistook a great round of :ctivities for the Church with the real, basic with of the Church. Refreshments were served by the members of the Choir and e social hour with further discus- sion was enjoyed by all present.
