SPORTS Barristers & Solicitors ROYAL YORK PLAZA 1500 Royal York J!:i Weston; Concerning the injury to netminder Paul Robiâ€" chaud that allowed Avarell to use Dixie goalie Ron Rutledge in that crucial sixth game, Paul was examinâ€" ed by a doctor for a very badly bruised side and advisâ€" ed to lay off for at least a week . . . this on the Saturâ€" day of the game. Apparently Lakeshore were hopping mad about the substitution and indicated they would protest the game if they lost. However they still had too much steam for reinforced Dodgers as they took the game and the championship by a single goal. On the other hand Weston was usually in a comeâ€" fromâ€"behind position in the first ten minutes of play, and worked themselves into a frazzle trying to catch up all the time. =â€" Barristers â€" Solicitors Geo. W. Bull B. Comm Howard G. Ashbourne, BA 43 KING STREET CHO4â€"5547â€"8â€"9 Registration will be open for you at the exhibition Friday and Saturday, and the fee for seven weeks is just one buck. Why not register your child tomorrow ? It could save his life some day . . . and in the meanâ€" time would provide excellent exercise. Ken admitted that Lakeshore outplayed his club completely in the series, and gave full marks to Goodâ€" year coach Ross Johnson for having his team in such good form. MINNOW SCHOOL We finally managed to hunt up Ken Avarell the other day to get a direct statement on what happened to his Weston Dodgers in the final round of Junior B hockey action. Demonstrations run the gamut from art to fencâ€" ing and from ballet to bowling. There will be stage shows, an art sale, refreshments, door prizes, and the admission is all for free. Sounds like an extremely inâ€" teresting ball. Safety experts across the country have been stresâ€" sing for years the importance of proper swimming inâ€" struction, and this town is no exception. The Recreation Commission has been conducting a summer swimming school for some time now, with very competant instructors to# show the tads how to stay afloat. POST MORTEM Inhabitants who failed to get in on the fun while the snow was flying will have a chance tomorrow | night to see what the happy ones were up to while the | rest of us were hibernating. The Commission, along with Weston "Y" and othâ€" er affiliated clubs, is holding Open House for the whole town at Central United Church auditorium Friday night from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., and again on Saturday afternoon to accomodate all the acts. Weston Recreation Commission‘s winter fitness program has had a very active and: successful season according to the town‘s director of recreation, Tug Wilson. ATOM TYKES You might be interested to learn that according to Arena management this was their biggest season at the gate since 1950, when many of today‘s big leaguers were still enmeshed in the junior circuits. Allâ€"inâ€"all, Avarell regards the 1962â€"3 season as a good one. He had a good team, and excellent support from Weston hockey fans, and expects to return in the fall to have another go at the Metro crown. This summer, Bruce and his friends will be headâ€" ing up to the clear waters of Georgian Bay to explore sunken wrecks. Bruce, who has been as deep as 100 feet, says that he will still need the warmth of his rubâ€" ber suit in the summer, because water temperature drops sharply when the diver has passed thirty feet. "But some day." he says, "I hope to get down to Florâ€" ida where waters are very clear â€" and very warm." After clearing away the snow, the divers chopped a hole in the ice and took turns going down into the cold waters. "The water was about thirty feet deep." Bruce recalls When asked what he saw on the bottom, he replied, "A washing machine, a railroad hand car, and a sign that said ‘speed limit 30‘. Oh, yes," he addâ€" ed, "there were some fish too!" Bruce, a member of the Etobicoke Underwater Club, is keen on all water sports. He became interested in SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apâ€" paratus) diving while working as a lifeguard in a local swimmirg pool about two years ago. One of the other lifeguards, who was a diver, introduced him to the sport, and_Bruce became enthused immediataely. Skindiving, according to Bruce and his friends, provides excellent opportunities for pictureâ€"taking. Exâ€" pensive underwater cameras, while nice to own, are not necessary. Bill Smiley, a friend of Bruce‘s and a fellow diver, constructed an inexpensive underwater housing for his simple Kodak Holiday Camera which has proved very functional. He and Bruce even managâ€" ed to get pictures during their expeditions under the ice, where lighting conditions were far from ideal. What did motorists in the Guelph area think reâ€" cently when they saw four fullyâ€"equipped frogmen standing beside the highway in the middle of winter â€" with no water in sight? "They looked surprised," reâ€" calls Bruce McGregor, who was one of the divers. What most of the amazed passersâ€"by didn‘t realize was that these rubberâ€"suited divers were standing beside a frozen waterâ€"filled quarry, and that in a few minutes they‘d be out of sight. Mt.
