The strength of the Fire Prevention Bureau was in- creased to 3 men and 1 man was moved to a newly formed train- ing division, which was design- ed to improve efficiency and foster a higher degree of skill at the art of firefighting. Further expansion took place in 1958 with the addition of , new triple combination pump- ers and 30 men. These plus the group who were on in 1957 brought the personnel strength to a high of 154 men. The addition to headquarters hall and halls number 4 and 5 were open by July 1958 and a new triple combination pump- at and 100' aerial truck were put into service. The depart- ment now had 1 total of 9 ve- hicles and I strength of 104 men. A triple-combination pumper and 19 were added to the force in 1954, thus eliminating the need for volunteers except in the Humber Summit area, which is I small community in the North West corner of North York Township. The strength of the department had now reached TO men and 4 trucks, plus a tank wagon in Humber Summit. In 1953 chief Nelson design- ed and built I new Pumper, thug permitting the retirement of the department's oldest piece of equipment. This same year saw the replacement of mobile Tele- phones by the three way radio. which has proven superior tor emergency work. Br 1969 the department had grown to. only 21 personnel and a great expansion need was in- dicated, if adequate protection was to be provided for the resi- dents of the Township. This name year saw the installation of mobile telephones in all trucks, thus increasing efficiency greatly. Number 2 fire hall was open- ed at 484 Lawrence Avenue West in 1952 and a new triple combination pumper acquired. Personnel strength was increas- ed to a total of 49 members with the addition of 13 new men. A permanent fire department was inaugurated in 1942 with live full time men, augmented by volunteers. Jamury m. of the same year saw North York’l lint fire hall built n 5115 Yonge Street and equipped with two pump trucks; . 192$ Reo and I 1936 niche.
