This was held Friday Inst, and it was favored with splendid weather. It was just about a week too early however, as farmers who were not done, stuck to their seeding, and the attendance was not as large as usual. The inside exhibits as usual, made a creditable appearance, though old at- tenders say it was scarcely up to the average. The fruit and ladies' work however came up to a high standard, though in floral display certainly, and we think in vegetables and household products South Grey in Durham next Tuesday and Wednesday will tar eclipse it. A harness and boot and shoe exhib- it inside evinced both skill and taste. As might he expected near the home of the Magwood's, Willis', Brigham’s, &c., the sheep display was an excellent one. We noticed Mr. H. Byers, Hamp- den, 'into their wool' as one of the jud- ges. Cattle were behind former years in numbers and quality, though in a few instances, breeder and breeding showed to good advantage. We never got eyes on the pig classes. The poultegr show was small, and we were pleased to see our townsman B. Moore carrying off lst and 2nd easily in Rocks. and was a winner in some other classes also. Hanover poultry fanciers should come to Durham next week. Pieken Bros. carried home the red ticket for Agricultural Horses, their fine span of matched bays being a tak- ing team. Mr. J. A. Hunter got 2nd for span driving horses, and Dr. Taylor lst for single driver. The chief interest of the day however was the speeding in the ring, for thch liberal prizes for a township show were offered. The 2.45 trot or pace had six entries and was keenly contested the racing being free from all suspicion of "fake." and consequently enjoyed. So was the "Free for. all" into which Mr. J. A. Hunter boldly entered Blatckthorn, though his two chief opponents had both better marks than his. Three heats decided the matter, Tony Klock getting first with Blackthorn a good second, Brown Richmond third.' In the first heat driver Robt. Scott led out with Blackthorn in great style and had the race well in hand had it not been for a slip in adefective part of the track. To geta good second in a race on a dusty track where the time was 2.211 shows that Blackthoru is developing speed. Bentmck Fall Show. Pleased to meet with Editor Mitchell on the grounds. There are few men more wide awake and enterprising than our druggists who spare no pains to secure the heat of every- thing in their line for their many custom- ers. They now buys tho Agency for Dr. King's New Discovery, which surely cures Consumption, Coughs and Colds. Additional kilnsure being erected. and a big lursiness is planned. The tirrn make their own bricks neat. by. Mr. Miller has floured the basement of his fine new office with the cement, and it has proved a. success. Thrashing is the order of the day, grain turning; out well, with the exception of fall wheat which is not up to tho mark. Miss Sarah Isaac is visiting friends in the vusinity of Gait. D. Eeeles' new steamer works well, and has a good season’s work in View. Mr. and Mrs. D. Ferguson, of Swinton Park, attended services here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Henderson, of Dun- dalk, also attended services here Sunday. Mrs. J. Benton and Mrs. A. Taylor paid a wait to their old friend, Mrs. J. Garsou, an Osprey last week. Mr. A.
