He also addressed a number oi meet- ings of farmers and others interested in this trade, and since his return the agitation has been kept up in the Old Land. Bell, Luthrie Bank , Mr A. llutcheson. Beechwood, ‘Perth; Mr Nathaniel Dunlop, Clyde Trust; Mr Henry D. MeCrxrmbie. and Mr Milton, ot Kemnay. The case for the deputation was stated by Mr Hallie Brechin, who commented upon the careful examination made of all Can. adian store cattle landed in Glasgow, and upon the (act that they had not had a single case of pleura. They thought the time had now arrived when thew restrictions should be re- lmoved. tor it the farmer were to be iy.eyeyiat.td, m his trouble, outlay l and care it was to be from the feeding I ot Canadian Cattle. Mr llanbury. in replying to the deputation. pointed out that this matter was provided for by an Act ot Parliament passed so recently as 1896, and he believed there would be a distinct majority in the Honse of Commons who would make it impos- sible for any Government to pass a measure repealing: that Act. He pointed out that it applied to live animals from all over the World. and Canada was on exactly the sumo foot- ing as any other country. Any alter- ation, therefore, must effect every other country that could supply them with store cattle. Then there was the perfectly insuperable dittienlty that they could nor reverse their treaties at a moment's notice. Be thought he was taking what in the end was the best course for farmers, and certainly for the consumer at large, iwhen he said that sofar as he was concerned " mind was very clearly made up. He did not think there was any possibility of his yielding to this demand as long as he was Minister of Agriculture. He hoped that by thus speaking out strongly he would bring home their minds and the minds of breeders that so far as he and this Government were concerned. and so tar as all Governments were concerned the policy of 1896 was the established 1 policy of the country. 1 NOTICE TO CREDITORS. i In Me Estate of Thomas Slot/mm. late '; ofthe Tottmtship of Gleuetg, in the I County of Greg, Farmer, Deceased. l mice 13 hereby given. that all [unsung !
