The issue is unâ€" predictable, Sharp as a center man may have more territory to draw from, but the two extremes, McCannel and Ball. will poll large yotes, McLean has a pretty solid township behind him and Staples is a veteran and widely known. Monday will tell. R. Morice has again we hear been eâ€" lected reeve by acclamation, a high compliment after so many years of serâ€" vice, We know nothing at this writing of the council. Thos. Sullivan. Win. Weir _ Many think the last named will be first, being the only candidate in the largest diviâ€" sion. Same thing here. â€" Reeve and council in by acclamation, a result that will save the Township exreme. for the county must foot the hill. Some think it may prevent a large yvote for the commuissioners, but we ima.gine Benâ€" tinck will take no risks over their popuâ€" lat representative, Duncan McLean,. GLExrELG. The exlpected hus happened here. Reeve McFadden has received another certificate of efficiency and is in by acclamation but there‘s a lively race for the conncil, and its anybody‘s victory. The names as they appear on the ballot are : Geo, E. Arrowsmith, Malcolm Black, Edwin W. Hunt, Michael Kenny, Wm T. Kerney, John A, McMillan, A card from Clerk Allan announces that the old council is elected by acclaâ€" mation, so lucky Egremonters will bave the holiday free from the cares aud the excitement, and the fun of votâ€" ita. Lucky twice over in having an efficient council. To the Electors of South Grey : GENTLEMEXN, k I respectfully request your vote and influence ut the approaching Provincial Election on 25th January, 1905. Should you honor me by elecâ€" ting me as your representative I will faithfully do all I can to promote the best interests of our Riding and the welfare of our Province, by supportâ€" ing only such legislation as I conâ€" ceive to be in the public interest, no matter from what source it comes. Yours very truly, Mr. Bean, a valuable member of the Board for the past two years, has reâ€" signed and Dr Gun is therefore a re presentatiye of the East ward for the next two years. _ Mr. Irwin of the Chronicle has allowed his name to stand against that of Mr. Carson, in the West ward and Mr. Mills is being opâ€" posed by Mr Telford in the North. But for these and the byâ€"Jaw the County would have paid election expenses. Tng Byâ€"Law The Byâ€"law is going to have a troubâ€" led course chiefly from the uncertanity surroundiug it. as to its legality, Some of course question its necessity and co-x-tuinlg if it was to prove a precedent for a like proceeding in the future it is worthy of condemnation. We think however the presentciyic situation calls for its passing, and we bhope its legality may be all right, There should be further discussion of the byâ€"law and of School affairs before the voting. most satisfactory. _ The securing of a 2nd assistant brings with it an extra government grant of $100, suppleâ€" mented by the Couniy to an equal amount. A misunderstanding between the town and Board has been guing on unknowingly to either party in regard to the taxes securad from the portions of Glenelg anud Bentinck which are included in the sectiun. The Board, in making is estimates, 1leckouns on these taxes,â€"about $#70â€"and asks the town for a net amount. The town it appears, then reduces the estimate of the trustees by $70,00, consequently the Board has been out this sum. He claimed that to the School Board beâ€" longed the right to levy on the townâ€" ships, the school section being ulder than the town, in fact the town has been formed trom the schoo! section. A reference was made to the |m(frove- ments lately made at the grounds, Durnar. At the expiration of the Statutory time for withdrawals, Clerk Vollett found that just the six men necessary to form a council were left, so that the council are in by acclamation. Here is Durham Council then for 1905 : Mayor, A. 8. Hunter, Councillors:â€"Geo, Sparling, R. Cochâ€" rane, (only 2 of the ofii‘ Council) Ww. Black. T. Moran, R, McFarlane, Sr., John McGowan. Surely a. capable list and the town will be warranted in looking for good work from thein. Municipal Nominations. Tur Couxty CoxtEst. JOHN McKECHNIE, Liberal Candidate for S. Grey.
