Born in the Township of Dumtries. Ont, in 1826, she came throtwh the wilderness and forest from Gait in 1840 to Owen Mound with her father. the late John Telfer, upon his appointment to the OtBee of Crown Lands Agent. upon the opening up of this section of the county for set- tlement residing on the government house which stood on the market square near where the old weigh scales build- ing stood. In the yet" 1818 she married Capt James Beith, who died in the your 1860 while on a trip to the Western On- tario peninsula near Sarnia. Taking up her residence on the homestead on La Marchand Place deceased saw the town grow from its first little clearing on the banks of the log-tilled Sydenham to its present proportions and no person knew more of the earliest history of the hun- 'let on watched with moro interest its growth into a solendid town Fortitu- ately her mental faculties retained per- feet clearness almost until the last though for some months prior to herde- mise her health continued to grow more feeble. Unobtrusive in disposition yet of a kindly nature she lived the long years of her widowhood m the esteem ofa circle of friends which as the years i went by she saw gradually reduced in numbers by the inroad of death until I the final summons came. Deceased wasulife long member of the Presby- terian church and attended Divtsion Street church. In recent years when it was recognized that the cud must soon come it was regarded essential to the securing of an accurate history of the town that such dates as Mo Beith was able to give should be secured. No def.. inite action was taken touch to the re- gtet of those interested but thereto- msins in the funily much that will he _ found mounts and interesting hots relating to the early days.
