MAcKENZIE, teacher. This is Success. School Reports. THE DURHAM REVIEW The cost of labor in fighting weed, inâ€" sect and fuuguos pests, which like the poor are ever with ns, is one of the most serions problems with which farâ€" wmers have to contend. The Seed Conâ€" trol Act has had the effect of increasing the price for their low grade seed. An even greater discrimination in prices is likely to follow. New weeds continne to be introduced. The trade in agriâ€" cultural seeds has boen a frouitfal means fir spreading them. ‘The shipment, for feeding purpuses, of screemngs from Western grown wheat to pointe in the Eastern Provinces is another source of iwmmediate danger that should not be overlooked. The noxions nature of new weeds that are being introduced in varâ€" ioua ways is seldom well understood or their danger appreciated by farmers unâ€" til they haye become well established, The Dominion and Provincial Departâ€" ments of Agriculture are more than eyer alive to there dangers which threaten to become a serions loss in ciup proâ€" duction, and in the Eastern Provinces they are coâ€"operating again this year in holding field meetings doring the month of June, when weeds, insects, fungus discases and plant growth are most in evideunce. Seyenty of those field meetings are being arranged by Supt. G A Putman. in connection with the Farmers‘ Institâ€" ute System ef Ontario. ‘The services of Prof. Lochead of the Macdonald Agriâ€" cuitural Coliege at Ste.
