Ten of them were returning in a gasoline launch from Hanlan‘s Point in the small bours of the morning and on the way the engine stopped and in a moment the boat upset and only one in darkâ€" ness and excitement reached the shore and crawled to his home unnoticed and almost exhausted. _ The bodies have all been found. He was in a boat on the Georgian Bay with a young Hanover man and while casting a line a lurch of a waye toppled him overboard in 12 feet of water. He soon came to the surface and swam to the boat having learned the valuable art of swimming when a boy. No wonder his friends are congratulating him on the virile qualities that suved‘ his life. Besides, the Telfords, Messrs McFarlane and Sinclair, and Misses Wilson and Howard contributed musâ€" ically in duetts, quartettes, &c. Excelâ€" lent recitations were given by Messre Malcolm Clark, of Meaford and Archie McLern, while brief addresses were given by Messrs 8. Putherbough and C, Ramage. Bug Killee at Darling‘s In a hard fought though not fast game and in extra time Hanover won from Chesley by 8 to 2 last week. Hanover brought over a large bunch of routers, while Chesley and Mt For. est also sent delegations to the game, ’ It is most probable Chesley will deâ€" fault their two games yet to be played against Hanover there and against Durham in Chesley. The gate receipts were over $150. Itis now ‘"‘up to" the Durhams to keep in â€"condition and get down to hard fast lacrosse for the semi finals: Elora looks like our first opponents, Durham F anover C. Lavelle goal Keebner Kearne point Henning Calbeck c ‘foint Wingham Mathes n I«t def, H Wendorf H McDonald _ 2nd def. Deviin Smith 3rd def. McKenzie McGiffin centre Patterson Cowan 3rd home 8 Wendorf Mciniyre 2nd home _ W Wendorf Lavelle 1st home Ries McKinstry outside home Bt;iszt McCartee â€" inside home Pieffer Darling Captain none Waghorne, the expected referee, was another who failed to "show up" and Addison of Mt Forest, who officiaâ€" ted, did not give general satisfaction, It was the rule rather than the exc epâ€" tion to see one Durham man or anothâ€" er with the timekeepers throughout the game. The line up ; To open the last period, Mcintyre and McCartee worked a pretty comâ€" bination which resulted in a counter. The visitors soon secured their last and Durham tor the rest of the quartâ€" er and game had things almost their own way, W. Layelle and Cowan fin. ishing the scoring. _ In each of the remaining quarters Durham notched three goals to Hanâ€" over‘s one. The home team quickly scooped one in, Peiffer scored for the visitors, and McCUartee snon made a clean successfulshot. After the check off Matheson secured the ball on the defence, ran down the field to outside home and passed to McKinstry, who scored. uo mearts, who had blocked almost all rushes to this time let one past, also Lavelle and Hanover had their first. Just to keep it from being close W. Lavelle and Cowan notched two more for the green and white, and Hanoyer scooped in a second while Lavelle was out of the nets Half time ; Durham 5, Hanover 2. District Champions, Right from the start the Durhams took the lead, McKinstry scoring the first goal in a scrimmage after a two minutes play. For the remainder of the quarter the gdme was quite fast, Keehner, Hanover‘s junior goal tenâ€" der, vieing with Lavelle in blpcking 1¢werything in sight. Only a few seconds after the openâ€" ing of the second period, Will Lavelle rushed in No 2, and McKinstry folâ€" lowed up with the third. Matheson and Kearrs, who had blocked almost all rushes to this time let one past, also Lavelle and Hanover had their first, Just to keen it from haine alnas | Only one change was made in the Durham‘s line up from that of their previous match with Hanover, Murray BSmith taking the place of Bert Mcâ€" Donald who has been ill. Again Durâ€" ham struck that winning gait so much in evidence lately and being never closely pressed, were not at any time forced to extend themselves to the limit, It was quite noticeable that when Hanover took a spurt. the Durâ€" hams followed up with their fast laâ€" crosse and usually finished by dropâ€" pingy in a goal or two. But it was not so to br. The visitâ€" ors came here with but one new man coralled, ~Paddy" Patter:on, and he was not in condition. Then the rest of the Owen Sound bunch failed to show up, so Hanover was compelled to press three or four juniors into harness, This furnishes the natural exâ€" planation for Durham‘s easy winâ€"7 goals. but it is very doubtful if the Owen Sounders had been on hand the score would be closer. The juniors were workersâ€"â€"in the game all through and did their share in holding down ‘ the score. J Judging by the record crowd at Tuesâ€" day‘s match, lacrosse still holds first place in the bhearts of Durhamites as our chief sport, Probably more than anything else, the magnet of attraction to this game, was the fact that it deâ€" cided the winner of district laurels. Hanover, after their defeat at home two weeks ago, resolved to "never say die" and searched for more stars to strengthen their team, with the inâ€" tention of winning out here.
