The day was spent chiefly in boating, for which there are unâ€" equalled facilities. The lake proper is in reality a combimnation of several small lakes studded with islands and by channels of yaryiag widths, and in passing through, changes of scenery of indescribable beauty are continuâ€" ally being pregented to the eye. About 70 ladies were present to hear them, Miss Burnaby‘s address being on comparisons of food, milk, eggs and cheese, and a talk on " The Edueation of our Girls." A duet by Miss Jean Brown and Mrs Stonehouse was a pleasing part of the program. Miss Bell gave us a talk on food for invalâ€" iis and how to make a screen for the sick room, Also, a demonstration in bandaging was very usefal and practâ€" ical, A vote of thanks was given to our delegates for their instructive adâ€" dresses and the meeting was closed by singing * God Save the King. The popular Excursion to Niagara Falls under the auspices of the Epâ€" worth League is fixed for Friday, 3rd July. Tickets good till Monday, Frost.â€"Tuesday morning the temâ€" perature dropped uncomfortably near the freezing point, but we have heard of no damage being done, The cold dip lasted but a night. Mrs McGirr, the efficient Secy., has handed in the following report : A. H. Jackson is an Issuer of Mar riage Licenses, Durham, Ont,. Women‘s Institute Workers. Read Kedler‘s Ad, for bargains, D. The following must be sold at once ; New waggon, new iron truck wheel waggon, a number of large egg vats, (would make first class cisterns) 3 or 4 thousand fence posts, lath, shingles, lumber, _A quantity of wood near Weibeck P. O., will be sold at fifty cents per loadâ€" A brief note from our correspondent mailed on the way, says the early start had sent some of the boys to the grubâ€"bag, but all were in fine spirits, The recrui;s at Varney and Holstein were duly picked up, and all were deâ€" lighted with the music of the band, which was being furnished more genâ€" erously than usual, A Prouvs REc1PRâ€"No excuse now for forgetting the breakfast egg. _ Follow this example: The Manitoulin Exâ€" positor relates the following amusing incident which occurred recenlly : * A wellâ€"known clergyman on a visit to the home of one of his parishioners was awnakened quite early in the morning by the sweet tones of a soprano yoice singing " Nearer my God, to Thee." As the preacher lay in bed he meditatâ€" ed upon the piety of his hostess which enabled her to go about her tasks early in the morning singing suck a noble hymn,. _ At breakfast he spoke to her about it, and told her how pleased he was, _ She replied, "Oh laws, that‘s the hymn I boil the eggs by. I sing three verses for soft, and fiye when I want them hard." The game gives the Bankers a clear lead in the 1st series as shown by the present standing : Lending dignity and attractiveness to the occasion was the fine Regimenâ€" tal Band. Bandmaster Hawthorne is receiving, and deservedly so, many compliments for the progress made under his guidance, and we have no doubt they will gain still more rapidâ€" ly during the two weeks of steady field work, undisturbed by other cares, We hope to hear of all our volunteer boys giving a good account of themâ€" selves in Music, Marching, Manners and Morals. The Band headed the procession to the station, playing at intervals, and a large number of citizens saw them off, The storm that swept south Benâ€" tinck on election night proved to be a destructive one. _ Its path was little more than a mile wide and it seems to have been of the type we read of in the States so frequently, Fences of course were blown over, the bush here and there was leyelled, orchards were destroyed, and many buildings injarâ€" ed. The roof, newly shingled last year, was blown off Miss Sarah Potâ€" ter‘s barn, and a chimney off her house, A chimney on Edmond Johnâ€" stone‘s house was demolished, the barns of Messrs Jno, Cooper and Chas, Furzman were more or less wrecked, while it is said Wim. Little‘s barn was actually moved an inch or so on its foundations. The halfof Arch, Park‘s barn roof was swept off and carried many feet away, and he saved the other half by a chaining process. There will be serious losses as a wind storm damage is not usualiy covered by insurance, What was probably the closest and most exciting game of the town league was pulled off Thursday evening. Four innings only were played beâ€" tween the Cement and the Bankers, the latter gaining the vantage by 9 runs to 5. It was of good calubre throughout with the Bankers always in the lead, _ McCorquodale‘s daring steal home with the Oth run was a feature of the game. Batteries: _ Bankers.â€"Wolfe and Wilson. School of Allan‘s Corners, was held in Mr Jas. McMeceken‘s orâ€" chard last Friday, A good program was given, consisting of speeches by Mr W.J. Patterson, B A., London, who is an old Egremont boy, brother of Mr Sam Patterson, of Egremont, who was made chairman of the proâ€" ceedings. Rev Mr Rogers gave an excellent address, Duetts were sung by the Misses Sirr and Mead and Misses Ada Brown and M, Ramage, Young Mr Watson also gaye a good recitation, the choir and a string band helping aloug the program materially, The refreshment tables were well patâ€" ronized and a nice sum must have been realized, Few Jun® Buip®s.â€"The usual crop of June brides is this year chiefly conâ€" spicuous by its absence. Locally there has been very little doing so far this month, Generally speaking, and we notice some of our exchanges comâ€" laining of the same fact, happy termâ€" inations to successful courtships have been, and apparently will be, few and far between this year, and even the leafy month of June seems to have lost its attractions for the loveâ€"lorn, Whether the reason is to be found in the financial stringency and the un will inguess of the modern young people to pinch and economize .like their parents or to the fact that the sterner sex is waiting for the ladies to exerâ€" cise their privileges, wilfbe left for w iser heads than ours to puzzle over, Mrs Bex Maur®, It is our sad duty to chronicle this week the death of Mrs Male, for long Call and see Grant‘s Ladies‘ Shirt Waists, Good values in Lace Curtains at Grant‘s. Fired from a mortar sunk in the earth, There will also be the usual BSmaArLt Pox,.â€"The town of Walkerâ€" ton has been put to an expense of $3000 owing to some cases of the disease haying been found amongst them. _ The *Telescope" last week has some pertinent remarks on the subject with which we entirely agree, It says:â€"*This subject has been disâ€" cussed on this page before, and the opinion expressed that if smallpox is to be vanquished, the total cost should be paid hfy the province, and the comâ€" mand of the campaign should be in the hands of the provincial authorities, At present, municipalities save large large sums of money by evading their duty, while other municipalities are put to grievous expense by doing their duty and the net resualt is that the disease holde its own, and we come no nearer to the suppression of it. _ Perâ€" haps there oou{:] be, at intervals throughout the province, isolation hospitals, to which the patients could be conveyed in vehicles adapted for the purpose, _ At all events it is quite certain that so long as the present system continues some of our muniâ€" cipalities wili refuse to recognize smallâ€" pox when they see it, and will call it chickenpox or measles, or will order the patient to get out of town on the the threat of arresting him as a vagrant." 3ist Regimental Band, Pipe Bana Dancing, Marching and other features. with revised and enlarged Prize List, Music by Greatest Day of many successful ones, Watch for further particulars. 600 Rosrs.â€"Mr Jno.
