Opposes 1. IHI. Miller, M. P., took part in the budget debate, following the chief critic of the opposition, Geo. E. Foster. _ A «espatch says that in reply to the ‘atter‘s charge that the country was paying record rates of‘ interest on lo@aus, noted that the test otf credit was not a comparison of the rate of interest now with that paid ten years ago, bat rather a comparison of the rate of interest paid now by Canada with the rate paid by all other countries, and on this bas‘s of comparison it was shown that Canâ€" nda‘s credit was as bigh now as it eve; was. As to charges of graft and wastefal experditures made by Mr Foster, he ree lled the tact that every me of these charges had _ been thoroughly voentilated in the Pablic Accounts Committee, and had been ansubstantiat« d in tact. â€" in respect to the iton and4 steel bounties, Mr Miller said that when they expired at the end of next year he, for one. would strongly oppose their renewal. AND DROMORE Finance Minister Fielding brought down the Budget on Taesday and had the pleasing task of informing the House that the surplus for the vyear will be as above. â€" It is gratityâ€" ing to know that the size of the surâ€" plus is as mnch die to diminishing expendituro as to insreasing revenue. During his ministry at Hopeville. he has shown some powers of dealing with young men and has an unassuming manner and earnestness of spirit that bespeak sucâ€" cess for hi.m in the new sphere into which he is entering. The mecting of Presbytery had specâ€" ; ial interest imported to it by the visit of | Principal Gandier in the interest of the | building fund for the new College. ltl was the first visit of the new Principal to the Presbytery and his masterly adâ€" \ dress made powerful impression. The Christmas Stamp, as a means of fighting the dread white &hngue. had its origin in Denmark in 1904, the sale from which has financed a hospital for consumptives in that country. The idea was taken up by the Red Cross Sociecty of the United States in 1907, and interest has grown cach year, A year ago a Christmas stamp of special design was put in circulation by the Muskoka F]voo MHospital for Consumptives with the success already indicated in this article.
