Mr David Walker, of ‘Toronto, brought his family to sammer along the Saugeen. This is the second season they have spent the summer with us and we are glad to see them return. Some very large fish have been caught in the Saugeen this year. We know of one party catching three speckled beauties weighing over 5 Ib. We understand some from nearâ€" by districts have caught others about this size. A close season for three or four years in these waters is what is needed and that soon . Miss Box and Miss Flora Lamont, of Port Elgin, are visiting Mrs Lane. In and Around the Village The Ladies‘ lostitate are also amâ€" bitious to see that all who come to spend the day with us will find themâ€" selves in a land of plenty. Oa Mondsy, Jaly 21, the Swinton Park congregation held a largely atâ€" tended picnic, tollowed in evening by limelight yiews of Africa. Rev. Wilson is a good lecturer and had a large audience on this occasion. Revy. Matheson, pastor in St. Colâ€" umba church, with wife and family, are gone to their cottage in Muskoka for six weeks. Rev. Loeece holds union services of Methodist and Presbyterian churches â€"in the Presbyterian church on July 27 and in Methodist charch on Ang. There will be a special Song serâ€" vice in St. Columba church i; the evening, Suaday, Aug. 3, at usual church hour. The cheerfal voices of the girls and boys are not heard so much since vacation. Some are away holiday â€" ing amd some in the fields workiag. They are gone somewhere for we see yery few around now. ‘The successfal pupils at Entrance Exams were : Ray McLean, Vietoria McMillan, Irene McLean, Allie Meâ€" Lean, Jas. Smith, Walter Williamson Olive Henderson, Lottie Muir, Danâ€" can McMillan, Ursula Mathesor . School News The School Board met this week to consider reâ€"emgaging the teaching staff. We deo not know the result. The prin]cipal of the sehool, Mr J. L. McDonald is empjoying bolidays at home and in the vieinity. Miss Bates, teacher in Junior grade is spending bolidays in Guelph and other places. The members of Court Pricoville‘ No 476. I. 0. F. held their meeting on Friday, July 18. The usual busiâ€" ness was transacted. After this the meeting was opened to the general public. A debate ‘‘ Resolved that Immigrants from other countries than British Isles, U. 8., Norway, Bweden, Denmark, Germany, Franee and Holland are detrimertal to the inâ€" terests of Canada, ‘‘ was well deobatâ€" ed and enjoyed. The affirmative won. Captains were Herman Mcâ€" Lean, aff. ; W. G Watson, neg., asâ€" sisted respectively by twoother memâ€" bers. This was the liveliest meeting the order hes had for many months. Every member come ard enjâ€"y next night. There is something special on Scots (Grey Camp No. 87 of Sons of Scotland held their last mosting is Union Hall on Tues. §th. Tnere is «lways a good crowd out and an inâ€" teresting evening in Beots Greys Camp. _ Aa & The delegate to Toronto, where the: Grand Camp met this year, gave an interesting report otf that meeting. As Mr Areh. MceCuaig was the person it is easy to understand that Scotch interests and rights were well looked after while in Toronto and properly reported upon his returm. Mr Mcâ€" Cuaig received a hearty vote of thanks for the admirable way in which the report was given. Already three large mass meetings of citizens of Priceville and viciaity have been held and largely atterndâ€" ed. The Conveners of the several committees have their work well orâ€". ganized and have held their private meetings. So there is now only one wish and that is for a fine day Aug. 4. For miles on all sides the people are enthusiastic over our second Civâ€" ic Holiday. The towns and yillages around us are equally so. Their sympathy encourages our village in th:s second endeavor to place on our recordsâ€"â€"@a Red Letter Day. We have the program for a day that might well be the enyvy of a city. We have willingly spent the muney. There is nothing cheap about it and nothing counterteit. You will thereâ€" fore all find the heartiest welcome you ever found visiting any town. So come one, come all and enjoy yourselyes in Priceviile, ‘The athletic sports for Aug. 4th are numerous and the number of entries will exceed the number last year, as already many are contemplating competing, who did not enter the field last year. For the last two or three weeks we were waiting to hear from the towns people, as we were informed that a branch of the Review was to be esâ€" tablished there without delay. Howâ€" eyer we dida‘t want to trespass in giving the current events of this town hence the reason no articles were sent from Priceville for the last three woeeks. So we hope to see this week something from this town nnd will thankfally relieve us of trying to gather news week after week, for its not an easy matter for a person living out in the country to know what iz going on in town, although we may often be there. There are lots of able writers in Friceville if they only thought so and took the time to send some of fthe passiug events to the press. _ Iv‘s a difficult task sometimes to gatbher the wandering thoughts and put them together in the shape of a letter or something to that effect, s) as to make the thing readable. The busy season is on for haying | and the enda of this woek will see it | all done. The crop is light but in‘ some instances better than was exâ€" pected. The quality is first clas:[ as it was well saved. We noticed Wm Mather bad a field as good as ever and would probably go a ton and a balf in parts of it. Barley is coloring and will be ready in a week or ten days. The oats is filling in goud, but in general is short, but the quality will by all appearance be good. The continual dry season is telling | on the pasture badly and on seme ot\ the hilts of Glenelg and Artemesia. If a match was applied it would cause | tire to run from one end to the other : of the fields in less than ne time. There was a light shower of rain an. Sunday evening bat didn‘t amount to anything. Water is beginning to get scarce and people have to drive their cattle for some distance to give them a drink and if we don‘t get rain s.on some wlll be badly off tor \ wat.r for themselves and cattle. Mrs McPhee and family, who visitâ€". ed with her sister, Mrs: McDougall, south line, for a couple of weeks, left for her home in Hamilton on Saturâ€" day, Also Mrs Aikens, of Bauffalo, wlo visited as Mr Shortreed‘s for a couple of weeks, left on Saturday for her home. s~he came to see her aged mother, who is getting frail trom the effeces of age and other causes. Mr Arch, McCuaaig attended meetâ€" ing of the Grey and Bruce Fire Inâ€" surance Company at Hanover Sataurâ€" day last, the 26th Jaly. 6nr mï¬il deliverer is getting atong well (Mr Shortreed) and it‘s handy to get the mail at the gate every eveâ€" niog. We expect the Priceville news wiil be giyen by some one else this week, as we did not give any from there of any accouut. Howevyer we may say that the Rev. Mr Leece preached an able union sermon in the Presbyterâ€" ian church on Sanday to a crowded church. Mr Leece will preach un: ion services in his own chursh next Sunday when a large crowd is exâ€" pected to attend.
