There _was plenty of variety and the reportâ€" oire of all three entertainers was ai most entirely new to a local audience, Miss Florence Wharton, elocutionist, won her way into the hearts of the audience and from initial indifferent order she captured the gathering till latterly assured eager attention. Her remarkable versatility was her wirâ€" ning point. Miss Clara Stiles was a new soloist to local auditors, but will hereafter be a favorite. Her fine, high clear voice was well exempliâ€" fied in ‘* I hear you calling me " and the famous British battle song * It‘s a long way to Tipperary." As comiâ€" cal as ever was Bert Harvey, who at times kept the house in an uproar of laughter. A unique hamoresqne was the song ** beautiful band.‘‘ with his own saxaphone, as well as piano acâ€" companiment, which " got *‘ the crowd,. Miss Ethel Sharp accompanâ€" ied and opened with an instrumental, giving complete satisfaction as usual, to auditors and entertainers,. The Society was gratified with a capacity house and a good flavor left for a sucâ€" ceeding concert. : Coll. weeds, plants, etc.â€"J. A Ferguson, 8.8. No. 9. Plain apronâ€"W. J. Eccles,. As we intimated las; week the first day was of an enticing eharacâ€" ter bringing out an abundant supply ot neaily everything that. goes to make a successful exhibition, _ The great banoks of flowers and fresh foliage plants that greeted the eve o8 entering prepared one for excelâ€" lenoe in other departments and few places testify more to the clever and basy houuwyflzlsmn show. _aÂ¥ly * Largest Receipts at Holstein Fair We learn that it is jast about 50 years since Adam Brown Sr., now cf Darbam, and two others paut up some home made notices, unsigned, called a meeting to consider hoiding a show. The meeting was a sucoess the show was formed and onut of the small beginnings has grown the present Exhibition. The see: -T Qay, was us[&’d as the Arst, a trifl chilf} perhaps bat this did not prevent a rousing at:endance, less than 1913 may be, but the gate receipts eclipsed all records running up to $302. The entries in eattie and horses were very numerous, there being 115 cattle beasts on the ground and over 100 hw ot the cattle could scartety have been expected to be prizewinners, yet showing them beside many exâ€" cellent specimens furnishes a m eans of measurement that will stimulate effort. Sheep, pigs and peultry classes were well represented and the work of the jadges was difficuit. We must refer our readers to the Prize List for the winners but it gives ouly a partial idea of the size and importance of this fine township show. Mr Jas Mardoch, an old president and friend of the Show was on tha grounds. Mr k. J. Ball M. P. also met many of his constituents, Some 20 or 30 from Darham took in the " World‘s Fair‘"‘ and most spoke highly of the exhibits. Mt Forest band furnished fine mu sic during the day.
