A slighting or smeerâ€" ing rejonder or no rejoinder at all will come dangerously near the broakâ€" ing point for uncle Ham, whose press is outspoken for the Allies. The great event of the week is the entry of Italy into the war on theâ€"side of ~the Allies, ~Formal declaration was made on Sunday and fleet and army are on the move. Austria sent troops across the border at one point, but they were speedily driven back. From the Kaiser down, Germany is filled with hate for Italy and in the meantime Britain is put in sesond place. Italy has taken possession of all enemy ahips interned in her . harâ€" bors. Even the prayers of the Pope desire Italian victory and German and Austrian ambassadors to the Vatâ€" ican have gone along with those sent to Italy?~ Italy can‘t be biamed for rashness in entering the war, but she is showing energy enough mow that ghe is in it. The Dardanelles is not yet forced. Troops numbering about 100,000 are landed at various points and bombardâ€" ment by the navy is proceeding with more care since they got their fingers burned in first attempt, Let us bope success is coming this time, for Rusâ€" sia badly needs the help in the way of munitions that could be rushed in by this way. A daring deed has been done by a British submarine, About two weeks ago it traversed the Dardanelles, got to the sea of Marmora and during seven orâ€" eight days kept moving around, sunok five Turkish vessels, two of them laden with troops, and got safely back again. ‘The captain gots the V. C. and his crew are also honored. The great German drive against Russia in Galicia was a notableâ€" vieâ€" tory for the toe, but latest accounts say the tables are turning and Russia is again on the offensive. Twice atdeast in this war Rossia * has come back * alter defeats. ailer delcais,. The pressure of the enemy around Ypres, where British and Canadians are, continues.
