If I have the good ? fortune to be wounded I might run across bim by some miracle! _ I saw Alpin Smith the oth er day : I believe he is a sergeant now. He seems to be a splendid chap and looks as if he could hbold up his end in a scrap. _ It is too bad he came in the rauks as he would have made a splerâ€" did officer. Luckily for us France has a great many canals so when we are in billets we have lots of swimming. _ The maâ€" Jor gave us a water polo ball so we bhave quite a bit of sport, As weather gets warmer we will fAnd the hathing almost indispensible. I hear Dominion elections are to be staged in June or July. There is also a rumor that every Oanadian solâ€" dier will be allowed to yote whether he is of age of not. In that case I would have the rare opportunity of yoting before I was twenty one, We have seen a number of villages lately where there has been a great deal of street fighting. Erom the apâ€" pearance of the villages I don‘t think I would like to take part in that sort of game. Trench scrapping is bad enough, but when it comes to street fighting with machine guns in every building I would rather be a member of the home guard. Mother has asked me several times if I have received a parcel of fruit cake and candy,. I am sorry to say I have not. However I presume some other hungry soldier has, so it is not likely it was wasted. Wadagreeably surprised this mornâ€" ing when the major informed me he had decided to make me a lance corpâ€" oral. The prowotion is not great and the rank means almost nothing but it shows they haye a small degree of confidence in my ability. June 12th, 1915 Our last few days of scrapping were very quiet : only one man was wounâ€" ded and he very slightly. The trenchâ€" es were the best I have seen in any part of the firing line we have been, so we had rather a decent time. As usuâ€" al our wires were broken seyeral times but for a change we could patrol them without going into the open, As a rule we have to go out under shell fire so we don‘t waste any time repairing them.
