In a letter written recently to a friend in Ottawa, Serg. Leonard Allen of the 1st Field Co, Engineers, 0.E.F., sent a recruiting poem written by a eorporal in his section. _ It reached a friend in Durham who passed it to us, On the road to lipperary There‘s a place that‘s yacant still, There‘s a rifle lying silent, There‘s a unifores to fill. True, at home they‘ll hate to lose you But the march will soon begin, On the road to Tipperary With the army to Berlin, In the Morris chairs of Clubland Are you tkere content to stay ? While others guaard your honor, While the Germanstoast "the day" For your King and country need you And we want to count you in, On the road to Tipperary With the army to Berlin, Have you seen the lonely crosses ? Boys who‘ll neyer more come home Will you idle while they‘re calling ? Will you leave them there alone ? For they‘re calling, calling, calling And they want to hear you sing On the road to Tipperary With the army to Berlin. And from Mons they fought ench footstep, When their lips with pain were dumb, "Iwas the hope which beld their trenches, N.ver doubting you would come, Through the frozen hell of wintar, Midst the shrapnel‘s racking din, They have waited never fearing Un the road to Tipperary There‘s a crimson debt to pay, There‘s a land of awful datkness Patient faces tired aud gray.? Sobming women, ruined girlhood, Strew the trail of kultured sin, Can‘t you hear the call for vengeance Won‘t you join us in Berlin ? On the road to Tipperary Sleep the boys whose work is done» Don‘t you hear the voices caliing To complete their work begun ? There are ghastly fingers beck‘ning, There are victories yet to win, O0a the road to Tipperary With the army to Berlin. Oa the road from Tipperary When the boys come home at last, Won‘t you wishthat you had listencd Ere old England‘s call has passed.
