Mabel 8. Kirktowno, Teacher. EDGE HILL TE DURHAM REVIEW Yet in this school of suffering there are lessons to be learned. Our thoughts take on a more heroic mould, they are turned away from self, and sympathetlc consideration for the good of others is forced upon us. In the midst of it all we are comforted for we haye the assurance " Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning." It seems a hard fate that the Jubilee period of our Dominion, which in peace times would be a time of celeâ€" brations and rejoicing, should arrive when all thoughts are turned to war and its‘hideous;results, when thousands in our Dominion are mourning for loved ones maimed for life or that will never returp. On the 1st of July 1867 this Dowminâ€" ion cameofticially into leiig. There had been bitter political straggles for years before, Party feeling, bitter enough in our own day sometimes, r.n much higher then. So bitter and unâ€" bending was it that a " deadlock " occurred, and then was witnessed that blending of the partiesicalled ‘coaliticu‘ that brought about union of feeling and the adoption of the Federal prinâ€" ciple as seen in our Dominion. Jubilee Year of the Dominion May we hope that the sons of the fathers of those days may, in an even greater crisis, be imbued with the exâ€" ample of 50 years ago, and prove to the world once more that in Union there is Strengthb, and start Canada off on her second 50 years with the cousciousness of a great and harmonâ€" 10us future, Bo while wishing all good things for the Dominion on the coming Jubilee Day, we will celebrate by renewed harmonious effort for nutional unity for more generous interest in Patriotic and Red Cross fuude, including help to the suffering people of Bealgium and to our own prisoners of war. ~ 1867 â€".=â€"â€"~1917 50 Years of Confederation It is a time of thankfulness for 50, years of material progress ; but also a time of heart searching, of selfâ€"sacriâ€" flce and of prayer that the God of Righteousness would giye to the Allies such victories as would establish perâ€" manently the reign of righteousness among men.
