In the former province, the situation is most serious in the Niagara peninâ€" sula. _ The white pine forests of Canâ€" ada are valued at $200,000,000, so that the most thorough measures are justiâ€" fled for the protection of this great asâ€" set. _ Th\ young forest growth sufâ€" fers most severely from this disease, and it is of the greatest importance that the large area of white pine reâ€" production in eastern Canada receive protection, in order that they may reach maturity and add their quota to the wealth of the country. Coâ€"operation Between Government Deâ€" partments to Eradicate Disease Arrangements have been completed for thorough coâ€"operation between the Dominion Department of Agriculture and the provinces of Ontario and Queâ€" bec, in the investigation, location and eradicatiocn of the white pine blister disease in those provinces. The Deâ€" partment of Agriculture will also conâ€" duct investigations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia, where the disease is not yet known to exist. _ Should it be found in those provinces, coâ€"operativ. arrangements will no doubt be made, and vigorous action will be .aken to combat its spread . In Australasia, where are estabâ€" lished the only democracies constituâ€" tionally comparable with Canada, the railway situation is exceedingly comâ€" plicated and the conditionsâ€"revenues The employees in 1913 on the railâ€" ways of Germany numbered 786,466 and were paid on the average $408.97 per year, thirtyâ€"eight per cent. of the gross earnings.
