It enâ€" tirely failed to live up to the Liberal platform of 1919 which, by the way, was largely a copy of ours. _ When questioned by Progressives as to wheâ€" ther next year further reductions would be made, the Goxernment gave skilliful evasions. Then came Sir Loâ€" mer Gowin‘s speech of high protection without any apology and Mr. Fieldâ€" ing‘s declaration that he never had believed in the tariff planks of the Liberal platform of 1919. + The letter below puts Miss McPhail right before our readers. We regret | our report represented her as unwilâ€" ; ling to vote on the budget, it was on the Drayton amendment that her vote and that of seven or eight others ; was challenged. To vote against the the budget as will be seen by her letâ€" ter, was easy and pleasant. I read with amazement in the Durham Review : "She (myself) ang some of the Progressives did not want to vote at all on the Budget, but a law compels every member to vote unless paired and her vote went aâ€" gainst the Budget." That statement is abselutely untrue. I never looked forward with as great pleasure to the casting of any vote. i Dear Editorty Oitawa, June 20th 1922 |__Join our Record Club and enâ€"| Miss Clara Honess of Tosonto, visit |joy.â€"a change of records every ?g":’f';:';':;; ::ri: '?;fih McDonald week. _ You can get this service * \Free if you will join our Club. .‘2?&?5;'.’%0::::‘;%‘:‘:: i:'::" Call in at once and ask us a.| frst beet which dressed over four "b o pents bundred ard Hugh McCormick‘s bout it Only a limited number coming second wasnotfar behind will get in on this offer. McCaslin of Crawford spent Sunday in Dornoch, The other victim was Dr. Walte( Rathenau, German Foreign Minister shot down as he was leaving his resâ€" idence, but his assassins have escapâ€" ed. _ He was an active figure at the Genoa Conference and one of the brainiest men of Germany. \ Two notable assassinations have taken place during the week. â€" Field Marshall Sir Henry Wilson, at the head of Ulster defence forces was shot as he alighted at his doorstep in London one day lately, by two men, agents no doubt of the Irish Reâ€" publican party who are guided by Valera. ‘Intense indignation has been aroused and stern measures will be taken to suppress the murderous‘ spirit existing. The two men were captured redâ€"handed. Wilson is burâ€" ied in Westminster Abbey, an imâ€" pressive military â€" funeral, fellow Generals were pall bearers and Marâ€" shall Foch of France was also there. Assassins Love a Shiningflark The two votes were separate and distinct, first came the vote on the amendment, when nine or ten of us did not vote until our vote was chalâ€" lenged and then I voted for the Aâ€" mendment because it contained the truth and I could not vote against it although 1 believed its movers to be insincere. Then came the vote on the Budget and with great pleasure I cast my vote against it. _ Of what use would it be to talk against high tariff in a campaign and then vote for it when elected ? ( reveal a disregard of political honour and tend to lower the standard of public life." x The Conservatives were evidently not sincere in their scolding of the Government because the Budget was such as they would have brought down, but their amendment contained the truth.
