It is with sorrow we report the tragic death of a wellâ€"known former Egâ€" remont man. in the person of John Millar of Nâ€"lson Township, Halton Co., which sad event took place on Sunday, the 19%h inst. He accidentâ€" ally slipped over the edge of a stone quarry that :s on his farm, falling a distance of thirty five or forty feet upon broken stones. His body was terribly mangled by the fall, dying about half an hour afterwards. The deceased came with his parâ€" ents to Egremont about the year 1856 and settled on lot 15, con 12. During his boyhood days and early manhood he was very diligent in all that pertained to pioneer life. Chopâ€" ping, logging and building houses and barns called for his strength and skill and he never failed to do his best. He also took an active interest in school, church and municipal afâ€" fairs, filling several offices, including tax collector and councilior. Both days were ideal as to weather, the crowd on second day being amongst the largest ever, so the Directors are on Easy Street. The Hall exhibits were abundant and of great excellence, the ladies congesting the aisles as they feasted eyes on quilts, curios, cakes, fruit, flowers, &c., &c. The hum of machinery in the Park the fine Pipe Band music from S. Park, the activity of the Directors and Judges, the meeting and the greeting of friends, all proclaimed abâ€" surd the idea some are advocating of having only one big County fair. There were 70 or 80 of cattle kind, about as many sheep, good represenâ€" tations of pigs and poultry and horâ€" ses in abundance.
