The seven surâ€" The deceased‘s first wife was a Stratford girl, and to them were born The wellâ€"known veteran rail road man, exâ€"conductor James Lavelle, died at his home in Stratford Monday morning, after an illiness of two weeks or so, at the age of 68 years. The deceased was one of the most popuâ€" lar and widely known trainmen in Western Ontario, having been in charge of the first passenger train ever run to Durham in the fall of 1881. For twenty years he was conâ€" ductor on the local branch of the Grand Trunk, Palmerston to Durham, residing here for that period, in the home now owned by Dr. Pickering. Over twenty years ago he removed to Toronto, remained but a short time, thence came back to Stratford, his old home where for 8 or 10 years he was conductor on the Owen Sound branch of the G. T. R. He later livâ€" ed in Goderich for 3 or 4 years, but again returned . to Stratford where his last years were spent. _ The last few years he has been an Instructori in train rules with the C. N. R. The writer enjoyed a brief chat with him about a year ago, while in charge of a class at Palmerston and he abbear- ed to enjoy the work.
