They Indicate that notwithstanding the strenuous competition that exists in the Canad- ian banking tleld, the Standard Bunk has been min able to attract to it- self its full share of new business during the year and to again increase' the proportion of the banking busi- ness of Canada handled by it. Non Current lows show a decrease of $120,000 and stand " $381,094.42. which is considerably less than lh of 1 per cent or the total aagets. E f' 0.2m; Names ”3:3: In last week's Review appeared a write-up of the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs Hugh McKechnie of Beth- une, Sask. From mother source the following has since been reeeived,re- hung to this imortant event in ttw lives ot this worthy couple: Hed Lady Lambton, the mother at the first Earl ot Durham, who be. came Governor of Canada and his sis- ter married the tint Earl ot Carnarv- on. This Earl of Egremont was very rich and his chief seat known as Princely Petworth. close to the town at Petworth in Sussex standing in a Park surrounded by a wall twelve miles long, is described as a temple of all that grace and refined human nature, rich in the noblest production ot treniutr--whatever the scholar. the sculptor. the painter could produce. When the Earl died unmarried in 1887, he was succeeded by " neph- ew, Geo. Wyndham, born 1876. who was a captain in the Royal Navy. He died without issue and the title be- came extinct. The title ot the Wynd- hams was taken from the town or Egremont, on the Broad River, Cum- berland Co., near the irish Sea. Eg- remont Castle, described as strong but not large. was built in 1070. In ancient times Egremont was a bor ough, but it was ditrtmnettitred on pe- tition of the inhabitants, who thought the expense of representation exceed- ed the benetlttt. Ancient charters show that about the time of King John the inhabitants of Egremont were in a state of abject vassalage. There is another Egremont in Caer- marthen. Wales. This township wu named utter George O'Brien Wyndham. third Earl of Egremont. born 1751. died 1887, who succeeded his father in 1763. He does not appenr to lave ind much liking tor politics. Although n utr. eral he supported Pitt's war policy and pluced him" at the head of a body of volunteers.
