The old house on the farm on lot " NDR. which we put up " years ago with Hugh Me. Kinnon as trainer. stands there yet as nrmonnment of olden times. The The last year Alex Aljoe was on the farm at Edge Hill he sowed grain on the 9th April. Quite a contrast from this April. Councillor John McKechnle had to name around Edge Hill line to get to the Township Hall last Stun-day on acountc of the approach to the bridge at Dunbar’: floating. The main budge is all rlght. Reeve Brodie walked to the meeting owing to had roads. Some were ploughing Fridny and Saturday. A Joky old highlander at dinner in an hotel was asked by the waitress if he would have pie or pud- ding. He said “i'll have them both ma'am please." So we give some of the olden times as well as the pres- ent. Pat was at a dinner in a. hotel. The waiter brought a small quantity of meat on his plate but he pretend- cd it was only a sample. Pat says. "That's a kind man, bring it along.’ Bo we will give. of such as we lave. Tis Monday is somewhat milder af- ter the big blow Sunday. Churches were not too full owing to storm. Sawing wood is continued yet but will soon be put off for more pres- sing work. Still another death. The toll of the bell had hardly ceased when its mourniui dirge was again heard, tel. ling of the passing away of a young man in the prime of manhood, Archie McDonald, nephew ot the McArthur's, near Dornoch. Arch. was raised from childhood by his uncle Duncan and aunts. He left many relatives in the Co. of Grey, being McDonald on his tathcr's side and McArthur on his mother's. Many friends would have like to have attended the funeral but circumstances prevented them. The funeral Friday last was largely at. tended. The condolence of his many friends are extended to them. Chas. Kennedy and Arch McDonald attend- ed the funeral from Edge Hill. The old pioneers are passing away fast. Miss McLean was laid 'to rest in McNeal's cemetery, Mr McNeal was a cousin of deceased and his liberal, ity in granting the 5 acres for a cem- etery is appreciated. It is pretty well dotted with monuments. The death of Miss Many Ann, Me Lean reminds us of the passing of a lady well and favorably known in Pricevllle and vicinity. Miss McLean came to con 19. Proton with her fath- er and mother " years ago when there were no roads but a track thru the bush to get to their new home. Hence the subject of our writing was only in her 10th year and she has experienced the hardships of being a resident of Proton woods. Her two brothers passed away a number of years ago and she was left alone in her cosy home at Priceville where; they moved many years ago. After1 disposing of their Proton farm. Miss! McLean every winter went with her friends to Chicago where she passed away a couple of weeks ago. Miss McLean was a good church lady and when at the old home in Proton, she often made the remark thatthey; could not maker fences to keep heri from trespassing by taking a short cut through the farms in Artemesia. coming to the old kirk at the grave- yard. Miss McLean had a line person- ality in her youthful days and often remarks made Bald that she wasl fairest of her sex coming to the old kirk. Her hair in curls showed that she took pride of her beautiful hair, and as bobbing was a thing to bei practised by her sex in future, she! did not know what it meant. At time ot writing the little patient is doing nicely. Mr and Mrs Vincent Paylor met with what might have been a serious accident Sunday evening when they were returning home from his fath- er's. In front of W. R. Jack's, the front axle of the buggy broke, allow- ing the buggy to turn over with Mr and Mrs Payior and two children, Luckily they got oft with a few bruis- es and scratches.
