In _ a letter to his parents, Mr and Mrs T. Andrew, Thornbury, their son Berâ€" ton, a student missionary at Oranâ€" gedale, Cape Breton, tells of his proâ€" gress in mastering the language. His congregation were delighted at a recâ€" (Thornbury Review Herald) Down around Priceville in South Grey, they say the Gaelic language is dying out and the monthly service in the good old ‘Hielan‘ tongue ceasâ€" GAELIC OF PRICEVILLE years of age was remarkable .n its confusion of keys. _ The trio by the trombones were all fine numbers. But why emnumerate? _ they were all acceptably good. Many of the band boys stayed for the dance. Another is planned for Oct 7th. Constable Scott was on hand but not required in this lawâ€"abiding community so far. Miss Doris McLean was a visitor at her parents‘ home over the week Mr Stook occupied the pulpit of St Columba church and preached a fine sermon, leading up to the accompâ€" lishmentsand very necessary require ments of the Bible Society. cable: "No more necessary than a cart with a third wheel." Lots of rain rotting potatoes, toâ€"day Monday, dust flying in town, the oiled streets covered over with gravel which reâ€" minds us of the old stupid Statute Labor (correctly called stupid labor ) where a fine gravelled road was covâ€" ered with soil by a new pathmaster. The Presbyterians are busy excaâ€" vating for a church in this little town and will soon ibe ready for the stone work of the basement. The fall fair passed off favorably as far as weather, entertainment afâ€" ternoon and evening by the fine Hanâ€" over band, exhibits and dance folâ€" lowing was concerned. The parade, headed by band, and exercises of the school chidren was a pleasing feaâ€" ture. The fine new floor in hall was favorably commented upon, free from dust of the old sawâ€"dust covering and more comfortable for audience at the concert. The latter was, as statedl by President Whyte, ‘the best held yet.‘ It is hard to say which was the betâ€" ter selection. ‘The Bells of St Marys‘ the most realistic, with its rich carilâ€" lon effect, was our favorite The corâ€" net solo of the leader was exquisite equal to any heard at the C.N.E. ‘A hunting we will go‘, the saxaphone solo by the leader‘s son not yet 11 Mrs J. The 50th Anniversary of St Andâ€" rews‘ Church, Proton. ‘This Tuesday morning we will endeavor to give a short account of the Anniversary services held on Sunday in church here, also of the supper in the hall and program after in church on Monâ€" day evening. Sunday was a beautiâ€" ful day and the church was more beautiful being nicely decorated with flowers, showing taste care and kindâ€" ly thought of the ladies of the conâ€" gregation. Services were at 2.30 and 7.30 both times the church being filâ€" led by an earnest and attentive audâ€" ience to listen to the able addresses given by Dr Mclvor, also the efficient music rendered by the home church choir ably assisted by Mr Fowler of Bethel. From remarks overheard, we think there was no disappointment. On Monday night, one of those notâ€" ed suppers was served in the Hall, for which the country churches all over are now famous. There was no depression at the beginning at least and why should there be with the best of the farm and garden well prepared and so kindly served by the ladies of the congregation. There was enough and to spare and a very social two hours was spent while supâ€" Dr Mclvor occupled the chair. The opening piece, ‘Praise God from whom all blessings flow‘ followed by a short prayer by Dr Mclvor. The chairman‘s address was hbrief to allow room for the following program: Solo, ‘Mary of Argyle‘, Mrs Palmer, Dundalk: a speech, talk and story by F. R. Olâ€" ver: song, Lorne Eccles, Dromore: a reading by Gordon Moore, teacher in the Park: duet by Miss Blakely and Miss McCannel, Boothville: reading by Frank Mcintyre, Dundalk : song, Jack Earnshaw, Salem: selection by Gordon and Alex McCannel: reading, Archie Clark: reading, Mrs Walter Knox. Those singing, also reciting, were so heartily encored and respondâ€" ed to that the program was â€" quite lengthy. A vote of thanks was tendâ€" ered to all assisting in program and the meeting closed with God Save the King. The gathering Monday evening was not as large as on many former oc casions. The rain coming on in the evening deterred many from coming out. Yet this being a Scotch affair, there were no paid artists, so there was little expense. The coffers of the church were considerably enâ€" riched and all are in the best of huâ€" per was in progress after which we took seats in the church to again be awbly entertained. Not by strangers, but by our ain folkâ€"at least we feel that we may call them so. THE DURHAM REVIEW W.M.S. of UnitedChurch will SWINTON PARK HOPEVILLE TORONTO Ply.
