The congregation of St Ooiumba. at the evening service were favored by old time friends, Mr and Mrs Geo. Cairns, trom near Flesherton. with a fine duet in good harmony. Pleasure was expressed by Rev Mr Bennett, for the kind voluntary given. The slippery roads were account- able for the bad fall sustained by Mr Wm Aldcorn. resulting In a very sore shoulder. Rev J. W. Scott gave a. tine con- gratulatory address on the acquisi- tion of Rev Mr Molt and our standing as a church. The foregoing program was twice contributed to, in addition to the encore: given. Rev Mr Bennett, the minister in eharge,.acted as chairman in a jov- ial, sunsblny manner and kept all in good humor. Votes ot thanks to performers, to chairman and to lad- ies, were duly honored. Wcrk on the roofing of the new church has unfortunately been stop- ped with the covering of snow, mak- lng it very 'sklenty' and dangerous. A program composed of Mrs Dan Campbell, Mrs Bolce, Mrs W. After the National Anthem, Mrs A. Hooper and Mrs Kate McArthur ser- ved a bountiful lunch. Next Sabbath, Rev Dr Melvor’s morning subject will be "Signs of these times" and in the evening, "How about the empty pews?' A large crowd is looked tor. . . It was decided to change the date of Dec. meeting to Friday, 16th, and it was also derided to have Parlor Socials for the winter months. Still the curl and tmcks are running. buggies, cut- tera. sleigh: and wagons and in odd man will go by on foot. But the main thing the general health is good. Farmers are kept busy attending to the stock Ind getting them used to winter quarters. Women and men are busy killing on the fowl and set- ting them to market. Prices are low and there are many markets being tried. Some go to Owen Sound and others to Toronto, Grand Valley, Ar- thur and Orangeville. And we think when trouble and expense is summed up, Swinton Park is about as goods: any of them. Howard Watson came home from his hunting trip hat week bringing his deer with him and feeling iitte after his trip to the bush. John Lane spent [at week with his brother in Toronto. Quite a. number ot the boys are trying tripping and hunting for a pastime,-auo'n money~maker. The W.M.S. are busy theoe days preparing their donation for the needy Indian schools In the west. The managers ot S. Park church purpose next week making on every member mum: of the congregation, both for home maintenance and for mission. Dr Mclvor last Sunday. gave a. splendid talk on the steward- ship of money. News seems scarce since the cold snowy weather. Folks are quite con- tent to May by their own tireride. We noticed in the press last week where some hoodlums had stolen $20, 000 worth ot tobacco from freight trains en route. Those men we think should belong to the preferred class of prisoners as tobacco is simply waste. A man bites oil 3 piece. chews it a. bit and spits the bad taste out of his mouth, or another will put in a pipe and smoke it. He also will spit it out and then we have noticed them make a rush to the bar and buy something to take the taste away. Only waste! If this money could be used to lift the depression and help the needy, how much would be saved. Dr P. T. Brown, Supt of Missions, preached at the services of the Un- nited Church Sunday morning and dispensed communion. A little daughter arrived at. the home of Mr and Mrs Allan. Stewart, on Sunday last. Threshing is being wound up on Tuesday. Mr C. Haw finished at Mr Geo. H. Gilkes' barn. Mr Neil M-cEachnie and family vis- ited relatives in Durham a. day last week. _ Dinner was over. A rap ‘came to the kitchen door. A young chap wan-i mi “something to eat." Yes, come in, she says, dinner is Just over but we can tind something tor you.. There was still some soup in the pot, good wholesome vegetable soup. 3 bowltttl of which was enough for any man. Then there was some cold meat, some bread and tea, and there was. good sized helping of apple dump- ling in the pudding bowl. We sent him oft with his stomach full and he was appreciative. 24 years of age and during the last couple of years‘ had only worked the odd day where‘ ever he was lucky enough to tind it} last night he slept in the town lock up: to-night he will sleep "God onlyl knows where."
