Shorts ‘Mr. and Mrs. William Hincks had their daughter, Mary Jean baptized at tehir home Tuesday night by Rev. T. .O. Miller of Markdale. The Presbyterian church officials very gratefully acknowledge a very pleagant surprise handed them by Mr. Henry Eckhardt, a cheque for one hundred dollars. Thanks is due also Mrs. McCabe, of Toronto, for two vasâ€" es and two very handsome burnished and Mrs. Wm. Hincks where a wedâ€" ding dinner was served to the bride and groom. Guests numbered twentyâ€" Mr. Colin McArthur is busy at presâ€" ent plastering Mr. Tom Spicers house on the farm. He is also laying floors, etc. Miss May Stewart spent the week end in Harriston. On Sunday all the members of the Hincks family met at the home of Mr Mr. and Mrs. Harry Payne, of Torâ€" onto were visitors last week at the home of Mrs. Kate McArthur. Mr. C. E. Hincks, who spent the past six weeks attending University in London, returned home on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Alfred Hincks returnâ€" ed after spendng over two weeks on their honeymoon. They motorel to Northern Ontario and the Unitec States. The chief points of interest were: Tobermory, where the ferry crossed over to Manitoulin Island. The Island proved to ‘be a wonderful tourâ€" ist resort where fishing is the chief sport. From Manitoulin Island they proceeded on their journey to Espanâ€" ola to Sault Ste. Marie anc then took in the World‘s Fair in Chicago. After enjoying the Fair they travelled homeward via ‘Toledo, Detroit, and also visited friends in London, Windâ€" sor and Pontiac, Mich. ; "The W. M. S. and Willing Helpers will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15th., when Miss Nelâ€" lie McLean has the topic. Roll call will be answered by naming favorite fruit. McBride returnâ€" ed home Sunday after a pleasant holiâ€" day trip to Ottawa, Burlington, Verâ€" mont, Mattawa, North Bay and Bala. They travelled over 1800 miles and reported the drought as very bact with crops much better here. Rev. J. A. Moir, M. A., left on Monâ€" day morning, on his holidays, after the Memorial services. McDonald, of Toronto, is a welcome~visitor at the home of the McVicar family. Miss Muriel Watson of North Egreâ€" mont is spending a week‘s holiday with her cousin here, Miss Evelyn Mcâ€" Dermid. Mrs. Alex McEachern, wife of the President of Toronto‘s Priceville Club, in his unavoidable absence, took over the management as conductor of the bus and its finances in connection with the Old Folks‘ reâ€"union. Mrs. Ramsdell of New York, home on a visit to her brother, John Stothâ€" art, delighted her many friends here with her pleasant ways. We were pleased to meet with Rev. D. L Campbell, who had been on a visit to the home of his wife‘s early days, here. Miss Denby, once a teacher here, but now of Regina, spent a few days among old friends and took in the splendid Memorial services essisting in the massed choir and also took part in the old folks‘ reâ€"union the followâ€" ing day. She returned to her uncle‘s in Durham, Tuesday. Mrs, McKinnon, in her 95th year, took in the Memorial service and reâ€" turned to her old home on the South Line, Wednesday, where her sonâ€"inâ€" law is recovering from an attack of appendicitis. PRICEVILLE We felt sad when we read in the papers last week of the death in Evâ€" erett, Wash., of Jas Meagher. Jim was a real pioneer of Proton and with him we spent many pleasant days at school, at work and at play. He left here about 1878 when a young man, first in Michigan lumber woods, then farming extensively in Dakota, finally settling in Everett and dealing in city property, prospering in all his Mr and Mrs J. Aldcorn and Mr. and Mrs E. Heard, were in Shelbur ne Thursday, at the funeral of Miss Barbara Aldcorn, daughter of James Aldcorn and the late Mrs Aldcorn of Corbetton. The bulk of the grain is cut and in stook, showing up better than looked for those warm days, yet not a bulky crop. The monthly meeting of Zion Woâ€" men‘s Institute met at the home of Mrs. J. C. Cook with thirty ladies present. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute Ode, folâ€" lowed by the Lord‘s Prayer. The minâ€" utes of the last meeting were read and adopted and other business atâ€" tended to. Miss Viola Neely had a good reading followed by Community singing. Mr F. Irwin, of Durham, then gave a very interesting address on "Travel," which was very much appreciated. This was visitor‘s day so the roll call was responded to by tellâ€" ing the name of the guest. The meetâ€" ing closed with singing of the Naâ€" ional Anthem. Lunch was then served by the hostess and her assistants. 1 Mr. Oren Peart has started the fall threshing on this line which is much earlier this year. Mr. Arthur McNally has suffered an attack of quinsy and has been under the care of Dr. Burnett. He is able to be around again. Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Greenwood: and son and daughter of Mich., spent a few days among relatives and friends in this neighborhood. Messrs. James and Will Marshall of Egremont, were up on Sunday to see their sister, Mrs. J.â€"McNally, who has recently returned home from â€" Markâ€" dale hospital, after an operation, and, we are glad to say, is improving niceâ€" ly.
