To a large exâ€" tent, states and localities have ‘been unwilling or unable in the hard times to even keep existing school buildings in repair. Gracing the platform was a large b‘rthday cake,â€"the work â€" of _ Miss Gracing the platform was a large b‘rthday cake,â€"the work of Miss Edith James,â€"illuminated with canâ€" dles, and which all the guests sampâ€" led. It was pronounced excelient. Light refreshments were served and the happy eveniing came to a close about midnight. There were four others present this evening in question whose birthâ€" Rev. J,. A. Moir was chairman of the evening and in a gracious manâ€" ner conducted the Guties of the ofâ€" fice, Mrand Mrs Reg. Ramage, N. Egremont, and Miss A. Lennox, fayâ€" ored with a trio, as did also the two sisters in a duet. Mr Peter Ramage, Durham, contributed a solo, and Mrs Frank Hopkins, Dromore, a reading on "Canada‘s wild goose." Mr Mal. Mcinnis, in a few words expatiated on the value of Mr Ramage to any community, At an appropriate time, Miss Jewel MacArthur came forward and read an address to Mr and Mrs Ramage, the substance of which apâ€" pears below. Accompanying her were two small girls, (Mary Patterson of Dromore anc Eileen Karstedt, Priceâ€" ville, with sheafs of fiowers for Mrs. Ramage. Mrs Sam Patterson, Droâ€" nore, and Wm McKechnie, Priceville: with mysterious parcels for the 50-i year leader. These proved to be\ fine slippers for both Mr and â€" Mrs. Ramage from Priceville choir and a shirt anc necktie from the Dromore choir. With difficulty, Mr Ramage found voice to express their apprecâ€" iation of the thought that prompted thsse gifts. He had ample appreciaâ€" tion for his work in the satisfaction of assisting embryo singers to a betâ€" ter knowledge of music. The closiing numbers were a fine anthem by Priceville choir, in which Mrs H. B. McLean had the solo secâ€" tion, "One day nearer home ".Comâ€" bined with Dromore choir, the famâ€" ous "Doxology" anthem was rendered So a happy thought to celebrate the event by some of Priceville choir members, grew in proportion, until it reached Dromore and Ebenezer, with the result that on Saturday eveâ€" ning, St Columba Church, Priceville, bad a gathering estimated at nearly two hundred, to wish personaally the best of good wishes to Mr Ramage, on the 8$0th anniversary of his natal day. He was decoyed from his home this night in question with the proâ€" mise of a long drive, which eventâ€" ually proved to be the church. _ As he entered the building, "For he‘s a jolly good fellow" was sung, which broke the ice for what was to follow. The choirs of Dromore, Ebenezer anc Priceville were present and the present and past leader,â€"the guest of the evening, â€" rendered olGenâ€" time numbers that "time cannot wiâ€" ther or custom stale." : Will‘am Ramage was 89 years of age on 23rd of September and for over 50 years of that time, has had the oversight and leadership of three church choirs, â€" Dromore, Ebenezer and Priceville. The Guties were nevâ€" er found irksome or onerous, but rather a labor of love. _ Gifted by Providence with a sing‘ng voice, he encouraged his talents in that dirâ€" ection and to him singinig has been the open road to many pleasures in life. The generations of cho‘rs that have passed under his oversight, bear testimony that they all "learnâ€" ed" under his tuborship. Some Aday the musical service Wilâ€" liam Ramage is rendering the community of Drombre and Priceâ€" ville will _ cease, but for the present it is a very live issue, to judge. by the enthusiasm of both the recipient and those responsible for the event Saturday evening. And our hope and prayer is that there may yet be many happy returns of the day and that they may be spent with the friends of Priceville. We have come together tonight on this birthday occasion to tell you how much we appreciate all you bave been to us, and also to congratâ€" ulate you on reaching your 80th milestone with such a fair measury of health and strength which you seem to enjoy. Since coming to Priceville nine years ago, this church and communiâ€" ty have been much richer for your presence here. You have not only helped in a musical way, but with all good work in the community we have been able to depend upon Mr Ramâ€" age‘s wholeâ€"souled help. days fall on same date, They were requested to come to the front where the audience could have a look at them. _ They proved to be Mrs Harâ€" old Karstedt, Mrs John Macfarlane, Toronto: Miss T. Fettes, Durham : Grant Muir, Ceylon. Your long and useful life has been most unique in that branch of church work dealing with the praise of God in song. For over half a century you have been using your talent untirâ€" ingly in the communities in which you have lived, training choirs and singers, also giving unstintingly your own voice in song whenever and wherever it was needed. Dear Mr Ramage : It gives us great pleasure as memâ€" bers of the congregation of this church, to meet toâ€"n‘ght, with some of the friends of long ago, to celeâ€" brate with you and Mrs Ramage, the advent of your 80th birthday.
