The car it is said was dealt in by the Hanover man to a Chesley dealer and later reâ€"sold it to Holmes. It was not entirely paid for by the latter, and the dealer is said to have been preaâ€" sing for payment on threat of reâ€"posâ€" | sessing the car. As there was insurâ€"‘ ance on the machine, it is claimed of them laid in Hanover, and it is said he walked back to his homa near Chesley after setting the car on fire and leuin‘ it east of Durham. Both rear part of it was badly burned. It it alleged that Holmes and an acâ€" complice, Roy Hagey, of Bentinck, cansplred to burn up the car for the sake of the insurance money, and that it was arranged between them that Holmes was to leave the car parked at a certain point in Chesley last Saturday night, that Hagey woul¢ Holmes and Hagey consp‘red to set i# on fire and it is claimed Hagey was Constable Meyer of Hanover reâ€" celved a phone call early last Sunday morning from Constable Laverty of Chesley, reporting the disappearance ol a b‘g Buick sedan, formerly owned by Ernie.Sandford of Hanover, but through Hanover to Durham and thence to a littleused road about fAve miles east of the latter town, where it is said the gas tank was emptied and poured over the inside rear of the car, a match lt to the machine and then it was pushe? & hill, where later found. now in the possgession of Wendell Holmes, a farm employee of Sulitvan. Muir of Ceylon for the theft of a steer from George Campbell of Glenelg Townskip was tried before Magistrate Spereâ€" man of Owen Sound at Markdale on Friday last. The case against Mr. Muir was dischangel by the Magisâ€" trate, who stated that under no anima 1 of his being in the field, when Mr Muir enquired?" In order to save further litigation between the parties the Magistrate stated that he could not see anything but that the charge be considered as theft and should not have been brought as a criminal action, but under the jurisâ€" diction of a civil court.
