WILLIS, 7 DAYS A large moving van arrived at the United Church manse on Wednesday evening from Owen Sound, to load up furniture and other goods of Rev. H. E. Wright, previous to leaving for his new charge at Brucefield, with its membership of 338. While at 1, some of the boys goodnaturedly serâ€" enaded in a honking style; on being appeased, they willingly lent a helpâ€" ing hand to the heavier articles. Sevâ€" eral of the ladies of the congregation were present at the time, showering the bride, individually, inside tnc At the conclusion of the induction service on Thursday evening, Mr and Mrs Gordon Kirktown were presentâ€" ed with an address and a sum of moâ€" ney, previous to their moving to Chatsworth, where he has received a promotion as section boss on the main line. His section is three miles each way. They have been a splenâ€" did type of citizenry, helpful as a manager in his case, and a member of the choir in the other. The induction of the Rev. Ross Muir into the pastorate of St. Colum-‘ ba United, took place on Thursday, with a very fair attendance. Rev. Mr. Pickering of Hanover was in charge of the service. He outlined the procedure, and put the usual quesâ€" tions as to faith, belief and adherence to God‘s law. Rev. W. Newman . of Elmwood, preached the sermon. The Rev. Mr Gordon, Dundalk, addressed the minister and the congregation as to their responsibilities and duties. A bounteous lunch was served at the close, as St. Columba fair ones know Quite a stir was caused one mornâ€" ing when the residence and store of A. J. McVicar took fire. A travelâ€" ler getting some gas, Ssaw smoke isâ€" suing from the roof, even a second time. Arâ€" rangements are being made for supâ€" ply during his absence. The concert put on by the Palmâ€" erston Excelsior Quartette under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church, proved most entertaining. The quietâ€" er selections were models of superb harmony. while the roystering humâ€" Urus selections were splendidly givâ€" en in point of time and catchy rythm. Lack of space prevents givâ€" ing program in detail. K. M. Henâ€" uerson 1st Tenor, C. M. Peavoy 2nd Tenor, Wm. Henderson 1st Bass. Jas Combe 2nd Bass, Piano accompment H. V. Pym, a music teacher of Listoâ€" wel, and his daughter, Marion Pym, a dancer: both splendid. In addition there was pipe music by three young embryo pipers â€"youngâ€" lads, Grant Muir and Jimmie Cameron and Miss Annie McVicar, the noted dancer. After the bounteous banquet was had, horse shoe pitching, and ball playing was staged. Sudden was the call to Mrs. Lauâ€" chie McArthur, who died Monday evening. Her daughter, Jewel was married two weeks ago to Rev. H. E. Wright of Brucefield. On Wednesday evening a miscelâ€" laneous shower was held in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Sam McDermid who were recently married. The bride and groom received _ many lovely gifts. Lunch was served, and a pleasant evening was spent. On Sunday â€" Anniversary services were held here. Rev Mr. Hirtle, Durâ€" ham, delivered two inspiring adâ€" dresses, morning and evening. Mr. Roy Langford of Markdale contributâ€" ed two solos at each service, which were much appreciated. The choir also rendered anthems and on Monâ€" day evening the Annual _ Garden Party was held on the school grounds when a large crowd was present. A bountiful supper was provided by the ladies. _ Onward and Priceville played a lively game of ball. The home team was the winner. The proâ€" gramme was held in the hall. The Excelsior Male Quartette of Palmerâ€" ston put on a splendid entertainâ€" ment. Bagpipe _ selections _ were thoroughly enjoyed given by Grant Muir, and Allan Cameron, and Miss Anna McVicar. Miss Agnes Macphail, M. P. also spoke a few words. The proceeds were $112.00. Mrs. Wilford Parslow, . New York is visiting her mother, Mrs. K. Everyone in this locality is expresâ€" sing sympathy for Ross Hill, Boothâ€" ville. who is suffering from an attack of spinal meningitis, Dr. Lindsay and nurse Palmer of Dundalk are in atâ€" tendance. _ Ross has suffered much pain for a week but we hope he may soon be better. We also sympathize with Mrs Roy Williams, who had both hands badly torn and sprained in a car accident, when they drove into an open culvert through an misinterpretation of signs given by men who were repairing the culvert. Glad it was not more serâ€" ious, but Mrs. Williams is badly hanâ€" dicapped with both hands disabled. Her sister, Miss McEachern, is asâ€" sisting. At Black‘s Beach on July 1st, alâ€" though the day was not the best, a large crowd turned out and enjoyed the concert put on in the afternoon by the Shiels family of Chesley, also the dance at night. Many homes were made happy by the homecoming from the cities and other places of employment, of the absent ones. _ At Hugh McMillan‘s, the whole family were home, and on Monday, Mrs Chant took mother and father for a good visit to her home in Bay City. Mr and Mrs J. Aldcorn visited at James Kennedy‘s in Shelburne last week, and attended theâ€"Brown reâ€" union held this year on the lawn of Stephen Aldcorn, Corbetton. 60 were present, coming from Toronto, Lonâ€" don, Woodstock, Elora, Fordwich. Harâ€" riston, Shelburne and Swinton Park. A very pleasant day was spent. Mrs Tressider and daughters intend motoring this week to Montreal, callâ€" ing at Kingston, Ottawa and other points to visit friends. Miss Alma Knox of Guelph spent last week at Robert Knox‘s here. Mrs Dick Hardy wih a number of Mission Band children _ were in Orangeville on Monday to a convenâ€" tion. Mr Wesley Porter took part in the program there. Through the kindness of Mr. andi Mrs Frank Macintyre of Dundalk, Mr‘ Robert Knox and Mr and Mrs. John: Aldcorn enjoyed a drive on Sunday evening, a pleasant hour and dinner in their home in Dundalk, then church service, where Rev. John G. Inkster of Toronto was the speaker. We renewed our old acquaintance of 43 years ago, and met many old friends, then spent an hour listening to the band concert on the Square. Rain is needed in this locality, esâ€" pecially for roots and gardens, and now we are in a quandary, as cutting hay has started. Good growing weaâ€" ther and hay making don‘t mix. Wm. J.
