Years ago when‘ the announcement was made that coal had been discovered in Northâ€" ern Ontario, it was received with a good deal of scepticism. : Coal in Northern Ontario: Some experts said, "The stuff will burn alright, but it won‘t give out miuch heat." Now Premier Mitchell Hepburn states that development will be pushed on the 100â€"millionâ€"ton ligâ€" nite bed with all possible speed. With W. G. Nixon, M. P. P. for Temiskaming, as Industrial Commisâ€" sioner,. machines will be leased to strip off the cutcropping and work will continue until 6,000,000 tons have been blocked out. ‘The Government hopes to use the lignite, without proâ€" cessing, chiefly in industrial plants in Northern Ontario and on the T. and N. O. Railway. Arthur Renton and some of his neighbors kept working away for over a week with his snow plow and managed to finished it on ‘Thursday. and broke the road as far as Schenk‘s hill and now the cars are running into our burg and no thanks to any outsider for hefpâ€" ing us get an outlet onto the main highway so that we can get out our stock. The Women‘s Missionary Society will hold their meeting on Wednesâ€" day afternoon of this week at the Manse. Mr Bill McKenzie and Joe Campâ€" bell have been cutting shingles for over a week and some one will have their shin‘gles in good time to give their building a new roof. Mr and Mrs Robert Keith were recent visitors with Mr and Mrs Charlie McDonald. Mr Arthur Renton took down his first load of stock today, April 15th, with his old Stewart truck, which has stood him seven seasons and has dealt it for a new Dodge. Our pastor took for the subject of h‘s sermon on Sunday, the story of the last judgment. The Bible tells us that we shall stand before the judgment seat of God, to receive His rigshteous judgment and to be separated. Mrs Harry Caldwell spent over the week end with her parents in Hanover. A brief program of addresses by several, and recitations by Reuben Watson followed, while the rest of the night was mervily spent in social intercourse, lunch, cards and dancing to music supplied by No. 9 Glenelg crchestra. and others. Guest County Courcil to Meet in Hapover in J ;;63; Austin E. Ball, Reeve of Hanâ€" over, stated that Hanover would be pleased to act as host to the Counâ€" t_y Council and mentioned the acâ€" comodation that would be available for members. Grey County Council, at their sesâ€" sion on Saturday morning, went on record approving the resouftion of the Elgin County Council, namely that "This County Council is in favâ€" or of the sterilization of mental patients in Government and County Institutions when approved by a board composed of two or more phyâ€" gicians and a judge or magistrate. This was included in the report of the Hospital and Welfare Comâ€" mittee, brought before Council by Chairman Austin E. Ball, Reeve of Hanover. Will Insulate and Beautify Grey County Home In accordance with a suggestion of S. L. Charlton, Inspector of Houses of Refuge,, the Grey County Home Board of Management have decided to insulate the entire flat area over the third floor to a miniâ€" mum depth of four inches and to inâ€" sulate knee walls and dormer winâ€" dows. The Board placed their deâ€" cision before the Grey County Counâ€" cil, in session at the Court House on Friday morning, and the idea received complete approval. Cost of this work is not to exceed $732.00. The report of the Grey County Home Board of Management was presented by the chairman, Reeve Albert Rusk of Markdale. It also announced that the matter of landâ€" scaping the Home had been given consideration, and that with the coâ€" operation of T. Stewart Cooper, a~ ricuitural â€" representative for the County, that a fine plan had been designed for landscaping the grounds. This work was to be commenced this year at a cost of something unâ€" der $200.00. _ It was felt that when this had been completed, the Grey County Home would be one of the beauty spots of the district. The report also announced that it had been decided to sell the old team of horses, in use at the Farm for many years, and to purchase a new, young team for $375.00 ‘The letting of contracts for groceries and previsicns was also announced.
