He was a | good workman and faithful servant of the company, On the 28th of April, l 1893, he was compelled, on account of illâ€"health, to give up work completely, | The doetor pronounced his trouble to be | nervous palpitation of the heart. The | district surgeon of thefGrand Trunk | Railway attended him and did all that medical skill could suggest in order to give him relief, but at the same time frankly told him that he could preâ€" scribe nothing that would effect a permanently cure. Mr. Wager was a member of the Grand Trunk Insurance Provident Society, and during his illâ€" ness received the usual pecuniary allowâ€" ance given for a certain number of weeks to sick members. The society also paid his way to Montreal that he might consult an eminent medical man who acts as referee in such cases. This specialist at once pronounced his case hopeless ; cure was impossible. He reâ€" turned home greatly dejected, and the Insurance Society paid him the whole amount granted to its members in cases of total disability. Mr. Wager has since that time resided at his home on the Gravel Road, unable to work, seldom going from home except to make an occasional trip to Deseronto and Napanee, About three months ago Mr. John Kitchen, the well known seeâ€" tion master on the Grand Truuk, who ! resides at Deseronto Jsunetion, told Mr. Wager of the virtues of Dr. Williams‘ || Pink Pills, and recommended him to |â€" give them a trial. The facts as far as we have been able to learn are that instead of chopped peas and oats being provided for the cattle on the voyage, that being the grain they were accustomed to, cornmeal and shorts were provided and the cattle would not eat it Then they hbad a terrible rough Atlantic voyage, and the vessel shipped so much water that the cattle stood in water and filth up to their bellies for four days at the last of the voyage and were landed in bad shape. When they landed they struck a bad market and the miserable appearance and wretched condition of the cattle made things worse, and they sold at prices which realized returns ranging from considerably less than 34 cents per Ib. to a fraction over that sum. It is also said that had Mr. Harkness not been in a hurry to sell for a week he could baye hit a market that would have brought a cent a lb. better returns.. There is considerable dissatisfaction among the shippers because of the abâ€" sence of any official returns showing what the cattle realized, and because of the uniform priceâ€"light, poor qualiâ€" ties bringing as much as good heavy finished steers, and coarse rough bul locks fetching more than any others. The principal complaint, however, is against the absence of official figures, it being claimed that as each man‘s Sattle were sold separately they were each entitled to a statement from the commission men who sold them, and instead they have had to content themâ€" selves with whatever figures Mr. Harkness saw fit to give them. We are also informed that the food which the cattle should have eaten on the voyage was sold in Glasgow for a handsome sum. â€"Chatsworth News, THE ie '087’_ SUCCESSFUL REMEDY know what to think of it beyond the fact that the experiment has been made, . and the result has been very unsatisfactory.
