The famous Manitoba School Quesâ€" tion has at length been setrled. _ The Laberal convention at Brandon have axemined the terms and satistactory they must be, sinze Mr. Sifton is acâ€" cepted as their candidate for the eiecâ€" Sionm which takes placs on December 4Ath. Heis now in Ottawa, and will by this time. have been sworn in as 'hrham: mur‘ The charge that there was collusion ‘between the two governments should now be drolpped by the opposition press, for the settling of the question seems to have been more difficult than Mr. Laurier expected, having caused him %o break his vromise that the arnounce ment would be made on a certain day. If a collusion had existed, he would net have givyen his opponents this handle, which, of course they are dilâ€" igently using. That it is settled is cause for heart felt rejoicing on the part of all. _ May so more ef such questions cast their black shadows over the nation‘s life, and may there neyer come a day, when a government will again be found urging legislation which would be sure to put a province in arms. REDITORIAL NOTE AND COMMENT. Miss Maggie Ryan has been under the weather for a few days recently but we wish her opoqgly recovery. The crrinciplo of local option is recogâ€" niged throughout. The proviso that is intended to make the schcols satisfactâ€" ory to the minority is that in districts having an average attendance of 25 Roman Catholic children, they shall be entitled to haye a teacher of their own d4enomination, who must be fully qualâ€" ied according to Provincial or Nationâ€" al Sechool standards. In districts where the children speak French wholly they are to haye a teacher sEeaking both French an" English, so that they will learn English as rapidly as possible. The rea ers used in such schools will be bi lingual, so that the children will gow up from the first accustomed to gligh."
