This body, consistinq of Messrs Caldâ€" well, _ Durhamâ€"Poehlman, â€" Hanover, andâ€"Phelan, Proton, met alouï¬( with License Inspector Harris in the Knapp House last Thursday. Only one new application was before theim, that of Donald McEachern, Cedâ€" arville, who applied for a wine and beer license, but the commissioners after listening to objections from the locality, and consideration given thereto refused the application. Licenses were granted to the same number, and the same houses as last year. The new License Act which reâ€" duces the number in Durham from 4 to 3, not being yet in force, the commisâ€" sioners decided to grant all four for one year more, with an implied understandâ€" ing that the law of the "survival of the fittest" will be put in operation next year. Tase number of licenses granted in the district is 31, divided as follows : Durham, 4 ; Glonelg. 2 ; Normanby, 10 ; Dundalk, 3; Bentinck, 6; Egremont, 2; Preton, 3, with one shop license in Hanâ€" over. For the first time in the history of the Board in 8. Grey they were waited on by a deputation urging restriction, This was I:-om the W. C, T. (2) That 10 p. m. inâ€" stead of 1130 be the hour of closing, aid ‘3) that all screens and blinds be removed from windows of barâ€"rooms and public sittinï¬ rooms during proâ€" hibited hours.
