- Barbara Maude Farr was born at Montreal on 29 July 1855. She came to Whitby in the early 1870s and married Robert Barnes, a Whitby contractor and carpenter, in 1878. On 29 July 1955 the Town celebrated her 100th birthday along with Whitby's centennial.
