Description
Colour postcard showing the Martin Manufacturing Company building at Brock and Gilbert Streets. The Martin Manufacturing Company was also known as the buckle factory. The building in this image was built between 1906 and 1912.
Notes
In 1887, Samuel Trees and G.V. Martin purchased the Michael O'Donovan carriage factory on the block bounded by Brock, Dunlop, Byron, and Gilbert Streets and established a buckle factory called Martin Manufacturing Company.

In 1904, Martin Manufacturing Company was purchased by Fred Hatch who operated Hatch Manufacturing Company until 1929. Samuel Trees Junior then purchased the company and called Whitby Malleable Iron and Brass Company. The buckle factory was in operation until 1964 and the buildings were demolished in 1966.
