The Freeman's ownership and date of commencement are uncertain; likely early in 1850. The Freeman was bought out by J. S. Sprowle, proprietor of the Whitby Reporter, which succeeded it on 20 April 1850.
J. 0. Dornan took ownership on 12 July 1851. John Ham Perry shared in the control of the Reporter. By 16 August 1851 the masthead read Ontario Reporter. This paper continued in publication throughout the 1850's. - Publisher
