- Jack McAvoy was born at St. Catherines in 1923 and came to Whitby in 1952. He served during the Second World War as a navigator-bombardier with the Royal Canadian Air Force.
McAvoy graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1950. While living in Whitby, McAvoy was manager of the industrial division at Dowty Equipment in Ajax. He was a member of the Whitby Planning Board before serving on Town Council from 1956-1959.
In 1960 he moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he became an engineer at Robert Power Inc. - Date of Original
