- John Moss was born in Liverpool on 2 April 1909. He was sent to Canada as an orphan to live in a home established by British doctor and philanthropist, Dr. Thomas Barnardo. Moss was sent to a farm near Belleville in 1920 and came to the Whitby area in 1922.
In 1933, Moss became a foreman at Red Wing Orchards and worked there until 1954 when he joined the staff of the Liquor Control Board at Whitby. He retired in 1972. Moss sat on the boards of the Pickering-Whitby School Area No. and the Whitby Public School Board.
Moss died at Oshawa on 29 September 1982 and is buried in St. John's Anglican Cemetery. - Date of Original
