0 ierrers -L I Volunteers make Community Care program work m- and, more needed Dear Editor This letter is for the benefit of ail senior citizens of the Whitby area and other clients of Whitby Community Care. I arn a voluniteer with Whitby Community Care and I wouid like to take this opportunity to inform everyone of this wonderful job that is done by this organization for our community. We have a very dedicated administrator and assistant administrator also our volunteers are dedi- cated people who give their time free. Our assistant administrator organizes Meals on Wheels for a good number of our clients making sure no Senior app reciates efrts of students Last evening myself and other seniors enjoyed a truly beautiful evening with the energetic, pleasant, charming young people at Father Leo Austin. From the time I found myseif at the front entrance where a lovely young lady approached me in greeting, to the conclusion of this evening, these young people did everything they possibly could to welcome and entertain US. The talent was excellent, the food was quite over- whelming. These young people were so, courteous and ap- peared genuinely pleased to have us there. The young man who was M.C. was professional and de- lightful. The staff circulated amongst the audience and we felt very special. There were gifts for aIl. A number of residents from an area nursing home were present and treated with such care and consideration.ý I just want to thank the students, staff and al who went to such efforts to provide such awonderful evening. A grateful senior Elsie Myette Letters Fax: 668-0594E-mail: WFPletters @aol.com Debt wall buiît with billion dollar bricks, reader says Mr. Chretien saysý that when the Liberals came to power after the Conservatives they faced a massive Cana- dian debt wall. What he neglects to mention is that it was his govern- ment and the previous Conservative government that over the past 30 years erected this wall, a billion dollar brick at a time. Yours truly, S. These are delivered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday regardless of weather or whether it is a holi- day or not, she has on occasion held up her own Christ- mas dinne i n order to make sure Meals on Wheels are delivered. We also arrange to the best of our ability driv- ers to and from doctors appointments. Now this does pro- vide -a problem at times because these drivers are also volunteers and have a private life of their own. They are a wonderful group of people and whenneces- sary get up early in the morning to get clients to Toronto appointments and the dialysis treatments. However, on the odd occasion, due to number of calîs, are the low number of volunteer drivers we are unable to accommo- date clients. This results in some clients getting very irate with, us, which is totally unfair. Furthermore we cannot guarantee that the samne driver will be able to drive certain clients. I hope our senior citizens and ail our clients, I am one of these being 76 years old - well understand these circum- stances and appreciate the wonderful service we give. If you know of anyone with time on their hands please ap- proach them and see if they can give us some time. Sincerely, B.
