Page 2, Thursday, November 4th, 1971, WHITBY FREE PRESS 1 Sir, As acitizen and taxpayer of Whitby, and a frequent aux- iliary visitor to the sick, and to our much needed general hospital (the Doctor Joseph O. Ruddy, Whitby), I am con- cerned at the deter- ioration of this building over the past few weeks, both in maintenance and part icularly cleanliness. My attention is dr awn to the fact that m any patient rooms are devoid of w i n dow drapes, which in my opinion is disgusting, when one real izes the money involved in patient care. I have n o t i c ed many pat- ient washrooms ex- tremely dirty, and jus t thisweek on using a public wash- room on the first floor, I was amazed at the condition and odour of same. The question I ask is this - Does not th is h ospital have an y form of super- vi s i on to c o n t rol these areas of the hospital ? Thank you, I am disgusted and a fan ofDr. JosephO. Ruddy. 4.....*................. 1 feel the same way every day 1 drive home from Toronto. About the time 1 see the roi 1 ing green fielciseastof Pickering, 1 feel 1 am es- capinq the hectic pace of the big city. Aclassiccase of the skeletons to be found in council's broom closet are the committees formed in the aftermath of a municipal election - not so much in the committees themselves, but in the reas- oning behind their formation. Onesuch committee was the harbour commission. Once manned by a bevy of defeated but poli tically-in-the-know municipal candidates, the harbour com- m i s i on could have been compared in a satirical fashion to an all-star hockey team. There they all sat in eager anticipa- tion, the town "doers" - or those can- didates most I1ikely to succeed by asking loaded questions and by pull ing the rug from under. The only thing is though, the harbour c o m m i ssion, as far as the candidates were concerned anyway, never got off the ground. If it was the clear intention of those elected to municipal office to discour- age Ihose defeated, one wonders at th e i r power to keep the latter under- wing. Then perhaps their choice in tossing stale bread crumbs was due to an honest lack of knowledge of their competitor's true worth. But still one wonders. READERS WRITE ism, for a while at 1 east ? FROM A SIRD eeS- ilm < EYE VIEWOUAIL 41 wé Toronto îs now. Many timesp vvhen we are too cri tical of W h i tby 1 it is because we have lost sight of the advantages of living here.
