Timmy Clark officially wrapped up the 1971 Canadian Go-Karting Championship with an imp- r es s i ve s tring of victories. He also t r a ve lied south of the border to bring home trophies for second overall in the Winter Nationals held in Georgia, and the n to Ohio for a third overall in the Spring National s, and a ninth overall in the Grand National s. THE FIAT 124 + 124 The Fýiat 124+124Regional Champion- ship Rally held last Saturday and Sun- d ay drew forty-three of the best raliy crews including entrants from the U. S. A. For thefifth year, the organizers of t h i s event have to be commended for a job welldone. In a rally of this size and status, it's not easy to look after more than one hundred people spread around the countryside, especially in areas like L e a skdale and Milibrook, where slip- p e r y r o ad s w e re making the driving treacherous. Due to a recent snowfall, it seemed that the roads were either icy ormuddy, but despite ail this, and brisk averagespeeds (although quite reason- able) there were no serious mishaps. Unable to enter because of mechanical problems, I drove a "back-up car' for the only local entrant, George Gilroy. George was doing quite weli in his first championship event, until his n av i g ator, Stu Brear , ran into navi- gationai difficul ties, and was unable to flIn ish the r ali y. Unfortunately Ihad p r ior knowiedge of the course and was not ai iowed to ass ist wi th the navigation. THE 'TALL PINES RALLY This weekend Maple Leaf Rally Club hosts a 550 mile National Championship E v ent c alled the "Tall Pines Rally". This combined rally and slalom race is sponsored by the Township of Chingua- cousy , and besides being a great fun ev ent, it could prove to be quite prof- i t a b I e. Cash awards and point money s h o ul d take the purse over the $I1, 000 mark, so it will certainly be well worth e n t e r i ng. Fellow Oshawa Motorspor t Club m embership lane of Whitby and i will be teaming up again for this rally. Oshawa CompetitionMotorcycle Club helda series of club trails last Sunday just north-west of Ajax. This event was a test of driving skill over very rough terrain, and despite a very cold wind, O. C. Scott L i n d b e rg scored both goal s for the O'Conner team, James Craig and Dave Lund got singles for Peter the Plum - ber. Family Kartways 3 - Local 53 2 FamilyKartway defeated Local 53 by the score of 3-2. Mi k e R os tek with a pair, and Jeff Fl eming were the Kartway marksmen. Blair Gibson also got a hat trick, with singles going to John F 1 em i ng and Derek Vessey. Br i an Roberts scored two goals, and Doug Rempel one for Berkel Construc- tion. MINOR PEE -WEE #4 TEAM - 6 #3 TEAM -3 Scor ing for team 4 was young Bill Davis, a 1 o n g w it h Greg Scott, Mick Goody, Danny Ross, Rick Smith and Blair Har- rison. Mark Tutton with 2 goals and M. McHardy with a single, were the marks- men for team # 3. # 2 TEAM - 5 # 7 TEAM - 3 Team 2 scorers were Nick Fisher with 2 , Dave Seymour, Dennis Millette and Tim Tram.
