The question in the government pub- lication, "What impact will the new air- por t have on towns such as Markham, S t o u f f ville, Richmond Hill, Ajax and O s h a wa? " aroused the interest of the "Free Pressi", who called the publ ished number advertising that questions deal- ing with the airport woul d be answered. "Wh y w as Whi tby excluded? " "Well actually thetruth of the matter is, we forgot about Whitby, " confessed Pennant. "When we noticed we had for- gotten it was too lateasthe flyer was already on the press". . . . Now that's Tories for you. We decided to dial Darcy McKeough with the thought in mind that if the Pro- vincial Government had any further lit- er a ry endeavours in mind, would they please not do the County Town the dis- service a n d discourtesy of ignoring its very existence! Some day , w e the t a x p ayers of Whitby, may w ake up to the fact that our Mayor and Councit have sold us down the river with grandiose id- eas rather than a d m i nistering to our needs in a sound, sen- sible and small town manner. But "Bill's riding", like the signifi-, c ance of Whitby couldn't have been ail th a t important though, as Paul Little for ail1 his promises tocall back that afternoon was still to be heard from at press time. So if any of our readers has an ex- tra sheaf of the Rotary Club's "Sketch- es of a County Town ", it would mak e an appropriate Easter gift for our shame- fully not-with-it provincial members at Queen' s Park. You might just sign t h e m I"Whitby L ives !"... failing that, some attractive brochures from the of- fice of the industrial commissioner might be propitious. A Town is Waiting.... The heart of Whitby with its some- what faded but still linger ing atmosphere of o 1 d worid charm, needs a facelift. The one being proposed now could mean that the County Town would be the only c om p I e t ely restored downtown in the Dominion of Canada.
